I know it's early. I know signs don't really mean much and they're not exactly political tea leaves and I know we have 6 long weeks to go but I just found this striking and peculiar all at the same time.
I was never expecting to see an Obama sign in this red, Fundie/Teabagger (Renee Ellmers won here) area and Mccain/Palin were heroes. In '08 there were a few in between the Mccain signs on Hwy 210 but that was about the extent of it and were 1 or 2 Obama signs at our polling place. What I'm talking about now is what I'm not seeing on the road leading to our polling place.
My mom and I couldn't help but notice during our trip to the neighborhood hardware store - it's little over 6 miles down the road from where we live. There are lots and lots of signs for down ticket Repubs with not a one for Romney all along the route. So many in number that they are actually an eyesore.

All along these roads I spotted down ticket R's, all the way down to where you see the big Red triangle. That is the school we use each election to vote. The signs continued along the road connecting Overhills Rd. to 210 and there are also several huge signs for other down ticket Repubs and Repubs running for other offices on some farm land across the street.
Not one Romney sign in sight (except 1 neighbor 2 blocks from us). Not 1 amongst the clumps of down ticket R candidates. I guess the sign planters have plenty of time to put some up later - we shall see.
I'm not going to put much more thought into it, it's just something obvious, interesting and worthy of a little curiosity.

(24,846 posts)on one hand where we are..... I have never seen so few stickers this close to an election. McCain/Palin stickers were plastered over anything that didn't move at this point four years ago.
It's almost like visible crickets chirping, isn't it.

(743 posts)I live in Greensboro and along my travels to school and to work I haven't seen one single Rmoney/Ryan sign or bumper sticker yet. No Obama ones either though but I think this is a good sign because in 2008 McCain/Palin was freaking everywhere! Obama still took N.C. then

(743 posts)that are republicans or were planning to vote Rmoney are getting to be like how my parents are now. My parents have voted republican all their lives. ugg, i know! A month ago they were gungho over Rmoney, saying they can't wait till he becomes president. They talked better about Rmoney/Ryan than they did me their own daughter. Then a week went by... Rmoney screw ups left and right. They weren't as enthusiastic about them anymore but still in their corner. Then another week went by and another. More screw ups. They finally just got beaten down so much by their own party that they are just saying screw it, we give up! We just will not vote now.
Their own party has beaten them down so much, they are having a hard time coming up with excuses to justify Rmoney/Lyan's behavior. They have just given up. Now I do not think they will ever actually vote for a Democrat let along Obama but I have a feeling a lot of these republicans are just going to sit this one out and stay at home come November. I talk to a few republicans online as well (some of the more sane ones who don't yell at me) and they feel just like this also.

(72,377 posts)expect in a Presidential election, and specifically fewer signs for the presidential candidates than I would have thought. Definitely more interest and support from yard signers for local and state races on the ride I took.

(9,854 posts)Romney sign. No Obama signs (except the one in my yard), but yeah, lots of downticket Republican signs.
I also noticed yesterday that Mick Mulvaney, Republican, has BLUE signs this year. Whassup with that?

(17,651 posts)None of our R signs say right out that they are Republican; not even the colors of the signs are giving it away.

(2,514 posts)our friend Willard is broke....think the super pacs may not be sending money to him... look at all the fund raisers he's having as opposed to real campaign appearances..
i think a lot of the spending this year went into the "air war"... ad buys in the media.. although in sure some of that super pac money paid for the down ticket signs also..
i live and vote in New Mexico.. last week he pulled some staffers from here to reassign to other states.. he was thin here to begin with...think that Willard was expecting more from the super pacs... he's now in a spiral ... less money, means less exposure, means less money...

(1,592 posts)Lots more Romney signs in MD than anywhere else (coming from Sharpsburg, so that's not surprising.) LOTS of Obama signs in rural Virginia along Rt. 29, and on NC 86!

(1,186 posts)"New Rule Someone has to explain to this home owner there is absolutely no difference between putting this (A Romney) sign on your yard, and one that instructs the gardener to pee in the pool" This is the real reason for no Romney signs.
