(16,139 posts)Because the drunk, sociopathic, incompetent version of the Republican Party is wayyy too disruptive and reckless.

(6,377 posts)the Repubs are gone! It is now the Trump Party. The TP party without a platform because, you know, TRUMP is the platform.
Nothing will ever be quite the same. If they had dreams of reconstituting the GOP, they should have defected from the party and waited for Trump to be gone, courtesy of the DEMS.

(37,133 posts)Yes, they will.
Far too many of them talk as if the Republican party had some kind of stroke in 2015 and suddenly went haywire, not that Trump is the direct result of its trajectory for all of their adult lives (a trajectory they had a hand in propelling).
Far too many of them are repeating the "well, everybody got Iraq wrong" playbook, dismissing those who got it right -- and for the right reasons -- as "the loony left," or for the current situation, to quote Steve Schmidt, "precisely the type of people that explain the reciprocal tribalism that's gotten us into this fucking disaster." They are always clean, it's always someone else being nasty. It's certainly never the case where those other people saw things more clearly than they did, and a lot sooner.
And for the record, for "real conservatives" like these, the term "the Left" is used much more expansively than for people who speak standard English, and includes just about everybody here on DU, not just the Green goobers and jackass radicals.
They're barefooted at a dark-sanded beach on a scorching day, taking shelter under the awning of our concession stand because the hot sand burns their feet. Once it cools down enough for them to venture out, they'll get away from us contemptible types ASAP and go back to what they were doing before.

(16,162 posts)Theyve used Kavanaugh in their ads. Wilson has called him a drunk rapey fool.
Give facts and informing ones self a try.

(21,548 posts)He has posted online pictures of himself with a Confederate Flag and a sign saying The South Is Going To Rise Again.
And he ran a bunch of negative ads against Max Cleland, who lost his limbs when he jumped on a live grenade to save his fellow soldiers.
Yeah, I reckon this is a man I can trust.

(67,782 posts)....their help, I remind everyone that we and England willingly accepted the alliance with Stalin and the Soviet Union in order to defeat Nazi Germany.
We probably wouldn't have won WWII without them. Should we have erred on the side of "purity" and eschewed their help?
NO! Same here.

(21,548 posts)If we had a President Rubio or a President Cruz there wouldn't be a Lincoln Project.
And if Presidents Rubio or Cruz did the same as Trump, conservative judges, tax cuts for the rich, de-regulate environment and corporations, these guys would all be fine with it.
They hate Trump because he is gauche enough to give their game away.

And Lincoln Project co-founder George Conway is a longtime Federalist Society stalwart. The same Federalist Society whose very purpose for existing is to pack the courts with rightwing idealogues.
So yeah. Facts and informing oneself.

(32,356 posts)... so yes of course, they want to rebuild the Republican Party. They got tired of watching Chump destroy their party - and the country - so they had to do something about it. I'm glad they decided to help us get rid of Chump!

(10,811 posts)Be Patient. They're working the issue even though they're somewhat silent at the moment (although they did put out a formal statement against a SCOTUS hearing/confirmation).
The good news? LP knows how the GOP works/thinks because they were once an aggressive part of the Republican Hive mind. Thus, they know better than most how to effectively undermine Republican strategy.
