Hawaii, Alaska, CA in the west

The rest are NJ, VA, NH, CT, DE, MA

have a higher cost of living on our lower or middle-class salaries.

6. umm median HOUSEHOLD income..that means a bunch of incomes sharing one household....

Hawaii is hugely expensive sto most "households" need multiple income earners living together, which makes the per household average higher.

It is NOT average per person income
