Put me down as a yes, said State Representative César J. Blanco, a Democrat and Navy veteran in El Paso. Its looking like a perfect storm for Democratic candidates up and down the ballot in Texas.

The more the Repuke Party pumps resources into Texas, the better.

(10,156 posts)Trump really accelerated the process of turning Texas democratic. Instead of 2030. It'll be 2020 or 2022 or 2024. The demographics are not in their favor here from Hispanic youth, transplants from California and other blue states.
Problem with Texas is that it's not super conservative like most want to believe. Its a non voting state. 25+ million people live in Texas and only 1/3 votes. If even 2/3rds voted it would have been blue by now.
Biden has as much as a chance here. Its gonna be closer than most think.

(10,156 posts)He is doing so damn much down south with getting people registered and trying to help us flip the state house. MJ is more than capable of beating Cornyn.

In It to Win It
(8,225 posts)I will say that I thought he should have threw his hat in the Presidential race because I genuinely thought no Democrat would win a statewide race in Texas until at least 2022. I thought the only thing that he could run for and possibly win was President because if all of his hoped relied on a statewide race in Texas, he was going nowhere in the next election cycle and we shouldnt piss all that potential away. My view on that did change eventually and I thought he shouldve ran against Cornyn.
In the Presidential race, he didnt the same kind of energetic campaign that he did for the Senate race. I think we can agree that Beto had grown to be an inspirational candidate across the country despite his loss. I thought immediately after the Senate race, he pissed that all away with shenanigans.

(114 posts)and where he lives they have voting machines. He was going to vote straight Democrat ticket but I told him not to do that. Just go down the list and select each candidate individually. Voting machines can be hacked.

(1,789 posts)I vote in a rural county south of San Antonio. I vote for each Democrat individually, but in big cities the straight vote can speed up long lines.

(8,225 posts)1) Little by little, some middle class families from coastal California have been relocating to Texas for cost of living reasons. I imagine the fires will drive that a little bit too.
2) Little by little, people that apart of that non voter group are starting to become more active.
Its something Ive been reading up on since 2018s senate race. In 2018, we gave the GOP a run for their money in Texas. I hope that Betos race would have given Dems the opportunity to build an infrastructure. Although we didnt win in 2018, that the infrastructure that the Dems built to GOTV worked. It got us closer than ever to the goal of winning Texas.
I didnt think of Texas turning blue until at least 2022 but if it happens this year, Id be jumping for joy! All else being equal, the GOP has no path to wining without Texas.

(1,684 posts)All on here are pulling for a landslide victory for Joe and Kamala and flipping the Senate. There is a real possibility that that could happen and we just need to keep the pressure on. obviously vote and get all our friends and neighbors and like thinkers to vote. You go Joe and Kamala.
Liberal In Texas
(13,532 posts)For too long people didn't vote figuring it wasn't going to make any difference what with gerrymandering and big money driving the elections. Then there was the national Democratic Party pretty much ignoring Texas and then we got picture ID and other voter suppression efforts by the repubs.
Maybe if enough clear thinking people are motivated to get rid of Deadbeat Donnie it might make the difference.
