(5,518 posts)Florida declared victory and opened all the bars and restaurants.
Surely a Trump loving governor wouldn't just do that in the face of very high rates of infection just for the appearance of normalcy.
And he did it just in time for SEC football, Miami/FSU, Miami Heat in the finals, marlins in the playoffs. Playing sports isn't the problem. Packing sports bars will be.

Was just reading articles about how all these people are invading Vermont.
Why not live where the state and local government and it's people are socially conscious! Speaks volumes about quality of life.

(42,770 posts)Town population 785 that people are swarming to? He's cranky and is hanging creepy dolls at town entry to ward off outsiders? He imposed a 3:50pm curfew in them.

(4,429 posts)however, there's been lots of stuff on the facebook page (my town) about 'outsiders' coming up here and bringing covid
It sounds kind of awful, but given the fact that NY'ers (I grew up there - love NY!)
but NY'ers drive up here for holiday -- lots of tri-state area folks do that (esp. now - it's leaf peepers season.
And, of course - NY got hit hard in the beginning. We're in a relatively safe bubble here - but we all watched what was happening just a few hours away
So, some of the fears are understandable. And now those states are doing better - I don't hear about that very often anymore.
For the most part, we rely so heavily on out-of-towners to bring $ to our little mom and pop industries - we know we need folks to come (a little!).
One of the nice things that our Gov. did do - is to give us all a bonus payment to spend in the state. It was originally supposed to be for much more, but the state house cut it down to 25. Still, it's nice. We have an electronic gift card to spend right in town

(42,770 posts)went with the virus precautions...no complaining. And most all restaurants set up makeshift outdoor tents for dining.
Good time to sell if you want to make big $$.

(1,086 posts)South Dakota, Iowa, and Wisconsin have us surrounded. Only North Dakota gives us a touch of relief in repelling the infected hoards.
