Not everyone who is exposed doesn't get the virus. However, let's see what the next week brings.....

They’ve been in direct contact or near someone known to be positive.

Plus, not everyone gets it. I know a couple households where someone tested positive, showed symptoms in one case, but others living with them never got it and tested negative.

First off, that could change. Second, lots of cases on record of one spouse getting it and the other not, though they lived together at the time. Individuals react differently, and virus can loads vary for many reasons also.
