Tea party groups work to remove names from Ohio voter rolls

CINCINNATI — Lori Monroe, a 40-year-old Democrat who lives in central Ohio, was startled a few weeks ago to open a letter that said a stranger was challenging her right to vote in the presidential election.

Monroe, who was recovering from cancer surgery, called the local election board to protest. A local tea party leader was trying to strike Monroe from the voter rolls for a reason that made no sense: Her apartment building in Lancaster was listed as a commercial property.

"I'm like, really? Seriously?" Monroe said. "I've lived here seven years, and now I'm getting challenged?"

Monroe's is one of at least 2,100 names that tea party groups have sought to remove from Ohio's voter rosters.

...now they're saying people who live in commercial properties can't vote. Make up your minds, teabaggers.

There needs to be some really stiff penalties for this kind of behavior.

a lousy paper, but a republican paper. Amazing a paper that on the other side of the country is covering, and better, news 40 miles from my house.

Something needs to be done to prevent people from manipulating voting laws like this. I don't think those laws were created so they could be taken advantage of and used like this.

Until we do some serious Election Reform in this country, this is the price we pay.

It is BEYOND time for federal laws that protect the national vote. Election law should be FEDERAL, not given to states to do as they please.

Ballots should be STANDARDIZED nationwide and PAPER.

Election Day should be a required PAID HOLIDAY across the nation.

Citizens should be compelled to vote lest they lose their citizenship (with mail-in and excuses allowed for illness, physical disability, other hardship).

NO OTHER LOCAL ELECTIONS or REFERENDUMS should be on the ballot in any General Election ie: for President and VP. Presidential elections should be for President and VP ONLY. Nothing and no one else. The Ballots should come from Washington to the states and be ONE page, standard format all across the country.

All the states and localities should be tasked with doing is COUNTING the ballots - BY HAND and in public with witnesses. Ballot counters may not be affiliated with any party, they may not vote and they may not display any partiality whatsoever with or monetarily contribute to any political party. Rules of the job.

ANYONE caught trying to keep anyone else from voting in any way should be charged with a FELONY and imprisoned.

Citizens United MUST be overturned.

The Equal Rights Amendment to the Constitution MUST be ratified (otherwise women's human rights will continue to be battered and stolen in elections) - they must be UNTOUCHABLE as any other rights ie: First or Second Amendments.
