We need a new cold war.

If I was Biden, I would hire 2000 new FBI agents and start a new Russian task force.
Root out every single Russian criminal and spy in America..

AND DEPORT OR ARREST THEM.

They comprise a far more dangerous threat to America than immigrant farm workers ever will...

It's been 56 years since we supposedly put down the gauntlet in the war on poverty. (Although, as MLK pointed out, the funding of the bill wasn't enough for even a skirmish.)

The War on Poverty is the unofficial name for legislation first introduced by United States President Lyndon B. Johnson during his State of the Union address on January 8, 1964. ... Johnson stated, "Our aim is not only to relieve the symptom of poverty, but to cure it and, above all, to prevent it".

I think it's about time we pick up the gauntlet and stand boldly for reinventing ourselves in a way that FINALLY reflects the things this nation claims to stand for (you know, those pesky things like justice and equal opportunity).

Let's make it a matter of patriotic pride to redeem this nation: Basic income. Reparations. Quality education. Universal health care. (For starters). We CAN afford it. If Dems get control of Executive and Legislative branches, we must demand BIG CHANGES we could be truly proud of as a nation.

Unless we expand the Supreme Court.

EVERY SINGLE PROPOSAL from a Democratic majority, hell, even a super majority, will never see the light of day with a right wing SC.
It's what the Repukes have been trying to engineer since Roosevelt. Now they have it accomplished.

NO PROGRESSIVE LAW will ever be enacted ever again unless the court is expanded.

Can't win if you don't fight. We've been doing pre-emptive surrender for far, far, far, far too long.

And as far as SCOTUS interference with the will of the people -- add positions to the court and appoint sane people.

With a 6-3 Reich wing majority on the SC, EVERY new progressive law will be ruled UNCONSTITUTIONAL.

This is exactly what the Fascists have been drooling over for the last 50 years. It matters not how popular progressive policies are, unless the court is expanded to 13 or 15 or 19 members, LIBERAL MEMBERS, then nothing will be enacted.

PERIOD.

Yes. We are ABSOLUTELY fighting against a tide that is running VERY STRONGLY against us. But we have to fight or we don't have a shot.

And taking up the fight requires HOPE. It's a positive feedback loop. You see others fighting, and have a spark of hope. And with that hope, you join in.

I guess I'm just objecting to messages of hopelessness that sow inaction. Perhaps the fight isn't winnable... or maybe it is. One thing is for sure. Defeat is guaranteed if we don't demand and do everything we can to bring about the changes that can save this country from becoming an even bigger nightmare for ever more people.

I'm TOTALLY on board with your points.
My point is it won't pass unless we neuter the 6-3 Repuke majority on the SC.

Putin is former KGB. He played Doturd like a cheap violin.

Russian tentacles in our society are pervasive to the point it will REQUIRE a cleansing or we will be forever under the thumb of an enemy.

We should definitely do something to root out the infiltration of foreign assets in the US.

Disagree that we need a new Cold War. The last Cold War was insane and nearly broke the American experiment.

The complicating factor currently is that there is a political party, the Republicans, who are cooperating to a pretty large extent, with this Russian infiltration. You have Senators who are actively disseminating Russian propaganda in the chambers of Congress. You have a president who states word for word, information known to be of Russian troll origin.

How do we fix that without going back to a McCarthy style "Red Scare"?

Immigrants have always been an easy target because "they don't belong here" and "they steal our jobs" both of which, are not true. They come here looking for safety and a better chance to survive. They are offered jobs because they work for less and will do jobs that many Americans think are beneath them. But, like I said, it is easy to turn anger toward them because they have not adapted to American customs so xenophobia, racism, and general anger can be directed to them.

We just need to fix what is broken and discard what is dangerous.

For example, our political system is broken because our politicians can be bought or blackmailed. Many of our politicians are owned by Russia. Many are corrupt.

Racism is dangerous. Anti-intellectual religions are dangerous. Fossil fuels are dangerous. Guns in the hands of fools are dangerous.

We need to build a nation where politicians represent each and every one of us, not big money. We need to build a nation without racism, a nation where anti-intellectual religions have no say, a nation that does not depend on fossil fuels, a nation that does not allow dangerous fools to have guns.

We don't need any kind of war.
