Source: San Francisco Chronicle
Bankers have come in for a beating of late, much of it earned, but this is going a bit far.
Turns out that the replacement referee most responsible for that disastrously blown call in the Seattle Seahawks-Green Bay Packers game Monday is a vice president of Bank of America in California.
Lance Easley, who signaled the touchdown that wasnt, has been with BofA since June 2011. According to his LinkedIn profile confirmed by a BofA spokesman who said nothing further he handles personal business banking services, credit facilities and commercial lending to businesses $250,000 to $5 million in gross revenue out of a BofA office in Santa Barbara County.

(3,226 posts)Nevada is not that far away you never know I would not put it passed a banker of doing anything to help himself to extra money.

(55,445 posts)most of the real officials are mid-level and higher white collar professionals in the offseason...bankers, accountants, insurance adjusters, etc...
They knew enough about finance to know the league's original deal was a bunch of bullshit from the start..

(501 posts)and it showed Tate caught the ball and what's-his-name from Green Bay pulled it out of his hands after he went down. I don't have the video, but I'm sure a simple Google search will find it.
Can the whining stop now?

(10,942 posts)But then I got to watch the play from several angles. The offensive player initially had his hand on the ball, but the defensive player moved the ball away. The ball was still moving around when the offensive player regained some possession of the ball, roughly equally with the defensive player. The two players then fell to the ground struggling to rip the ball from the other hand. The rule for such an event is that partial ownership of a live ball goes to the offensive player, that player is awarded full possession. After seeing other angles, I think the Ref made a tough, but correct call.
So I don't understand why people are so upset by it.

(26,068 posts)I've researched NFL refs since all this toodoo started, and there are no FT refs unionized, and most of the official officials have white-collar jobs on the side, including banking. Which is why, imo, they need FT refs dedicated to the League.

(10,942 posts)One highly respected NFL official from a few years back, since retired, owned his own sizable law practice. He didn't need to work for the money, but enjoyed working alongside some of the top athletes in existence.

(10,942 posts)Until there is an interview with or story about the guy where we can assess his honesty and reasons for being a replacement official, I withhold judgment. The guy may be a well compensated, right-wing asshole that hates unions, or he may be a sports fan who was given a once in a lifetime opportunity to officiate for a little while in the NFL.
