HOUSTON A lot of people are understandably concerned about voting in person during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Thats one of the reasons a record number of voters have requested mail-in ballots. But now that Gov. Greg Abbott has limited counties to one drop-off location for those ballots, most voters would have to drive miles out of their way or take their chance with the post office.

(22,235 posts)We have so called curbside voting for folks who can't come into the building and every precinct is supposed to use it if needed. It is a nightmare.
They are probably using a different brand of equipment. Our system is wonderful, unless we need to do a curbside.
The other really cool thing is a new law which allows us to vote at any open precinct on Election Day. We will have approximately 200 voting locations in Tarrant County and I think Harris will have 500. Not only does this eliminate the problems of arriving at the wrong polling place at the end of the day with no time to go to the right one, it also gives us an opportunity to find a less crowded voting site. I have 6 within a 5 minute drive from my house.

(22,235 posts)for handing in the mail in ballots. They started taking the ballots last Monday. I think they have 8 stations
Last Monday was the last day to register. The Elections Office was clogged with folks bringing in registrations all day - the office was supposed to close at 5 pm, but they stayed open until 10. There were 6 drop off points for the registration forms; the traffic control was excellent and moving well - still the line of cars went down the street and around a corner to another street.
I really would like to know how many new registrations were taken on Monday.
Things are going to look different down here, I can feel it
