So, I am taking Economics this quarter, both Macro & Micro...one is in-class and one is online. It's actually good I am taking both at the same time because so much of the content overlaps. But even though I took civics/econ in HS, it's like taking it for the first time.
Went into the Library to read the text chapters today and take notes. The books are available in-house for free at 2 hour intervals... well, I lasted about 45 min with each. My brain is saturated. I *hope* I took good enough notes, and I *think* I am ready to start my first assignment. But again, I am struggling with this on so many levels. Not because I am not intelligent, but I can FEEL that I haven't taken a 'solid' class in 15 years or more. I know I am only in my 40s, but I can still feel the lack of concentration.
...and shit, when I took Econ in HS, it was 1988 and the economy seemed MUCH simpler!!! O-o
Anyway, I appreciate being able to come here and vent a little. I recognize that these classes will only make me a better journalist and when I have to do another city budget story, I am going to understand SOOOO much more! It's just weird being in academia again, and this is just the beginning of a long, hard road to my BA...I am scared a little.
For my journal topic this week, I am going to address the question of Govt Role in Market Economy ~ and how interesting that part of the DEFINITION of govt roles is that of "redistribution"...and how odd it is that during election season our POTUS is called a wealth redistributor like it is a BAD thing
and I think I am going to also post in our online class forum... How is it that the top holders of the wealth are called Job-creators when all they do is sit on said wealth?
hopefully I will "get" this stuff sooner or later

(14,549 posts)cost about $180.00 back then. I just couldn't and wouldn't afford to buy it.
I was in the library at that book all quarter long and did get a good grade, but jeez what a hassle.
I do remember the Professor being a very nice person, though.

(12,799 posts)Isn't it astounding how we can get out of practice with the studying?

(13,355 posts)...and I LOVE school....I have been taking electives over the years but nothing like this! a speech class is easy comparatively!
But ya, I am having to learn some new study skills for sure, I may even use some of the student resources and see if there's some tricks I don't know.

(12,448 posts)I hope you really get into this and work to really understand it, not just get a grade. As a reporter, you will be in a position to really educate people about how it works and expose what is being done every day to them by the people that designed this system for their own benefit.
