Tell Congress: Don’t Bargain Away Social Security

http://action.ourfuture.org/p/dia/action/public/?action_KEY=178

The forces of austerity in Washington are using the prospect of automatic spending cuts and tax increases at the end of the year to pressure Congress into a "grand bargain," slashing Social Security benefits in the name of deficit reduction. 29 Senators, including Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, have already signed a pledge saying they will "oppose Social Security cuts for future or current beneficiaries in any deficit reduction package." If a majority of the House and Senate take that same pledge, Social Security will be safe. Use the form below to tell your representatives in Washington: "Take the pledge. Don't bargain away Social Security."

any "democrat" in Congress be dumb enough to buy into the deficit/debt hysteria and
advocate for austerity?

you may have noticed-- congress isn't actually listening.. and that's a big problem.

years before the pullout out of Iraq began, all polling indicated the majority of
Americans wanted this bullcrap war of choice to end.

did congress listen? Nope.

there's a reason for that.

population than during vietnam.

However -- loudly & often does help -- particularly with domestic programs, cuts in which are much more immediately visible to the population than war spending or dead bodies of foreigners.

Social security & medicare are the two government programs in which a wide swath of the public in every income group participate. That's why push-back is more likely to be heard & responded to.

domestic social programs are the proverbial third rail-- because as you state, a wide
swath participate (apparently some are "unaware" of where their benefit checks actually
come from).. but the large demographic of actual voters-- the elderly, do in fact know
where the benefits come from.

On PBS Newshour last nite-- Mr. Shields accurately pointed out that in the swing states where
Rmoney is actively campaigning, he is dropping in popularity/approval rating. I suspect this
is because in states like FL, the elderly are hearing exactly what they don't want to hear
from Rmoney/Ryan: changes "must be made" to Medicare and SS.

I'm not sure why the GOP is this stupid; I can only surmise they assume voters are stupid, too.
