I am really hoping Trump doesn't get away with that same crap he pulled during the first debate.

(7,715 posts)If I recall correctly, had all three debates happened, the 2nd would be a town hall and the 3rd would be foreign.
If there is to be a debate on October 22, it should be virtual and a townhall covering both domestic and foreign issues.
And there should be mic control for any candidate who interrupts/breaks the rules (i.e., Fatso).

2. Auto mute after time us up.
Else no deal.

(3,784 posts)........because Trump is scared to death of strong women, and strong black women in particular. She'd be able to shut him up AND make him look like a coward in the process.

(578 posts)debate. I thought there wasn't going to be another debate. I just feel Trump has more to gain from a debate than Biden does. Not looking forward to this debate. Just hope Joe can pull this off.

(7,447 posts)When this cycle has he gained from a debate? Or a town hall? Or literally anything?
When has Biden failed?
Enough with the fear.

(1,789 posts)He will try to come back from tonight's fiasco with a repeat of the first debate fiasco. Joe doesn't even have to say shut up this time, just smile and say "There he goes again".

(7,447 posts)Pretty clear that crap cost him a couple of points in the polls.
I'll take another two point drop. Biden knows what to expect now so I expect he will do better.

(26,044 posts)Initially, the second debate was to be a town hall, which format gave Biden a considerable advantage. When Trump backed out of that, Biden's camp insisted that the final debate have the town-hall format. Now, thanks to NBC, the reasoning will be that "the candidates have already had their town halls" (even though it wasn't the same thing for several reasons) "so now we can have another podium debate for the final one, as planned."
So, you might say, why should we worry about this, since the first debate was such a debacle for Trump? Because Trump's whole approach was to be disruptive and bait Biden into either a gaffe or a bout of stuttering, which would then be the video "highlight" played everywhere, and reinforce the narrative that "Sleepy Joe" had cognitive problems. Trump's error was that he overplayed his hand, and was so disruptive that he got a negative reaction himself. Trump's trick for the final debate will be to figure out how to dial down the aggression just enough to make himself seem "more mature than at the first debate" while still trying to goad Biden. At that point, the question becomes: "Can Joe keep enough self-control to prevent himself from making an error that turns the election on his head?" He did a great job last time, but it clearly took him a lot of effort. We can only hope he can turn in such a controlled effort once again, because any misstep he might make will become the "highlight reel" for the last two weeks of this campaign. And, even if he can, it means that debate-watchers will have been prevented from seeing him and Trump side-by-side, live, responding to the concerns of ordinary people -- a comparison which could well have ended the race right there.

(4,673 posts)took him a lot of effort. No doubt 45 was a frustrated bag of whatsit, but if anything Biden is even more prepared for 45s tactic.
I see Biden as totally prepared and capable for whatever (non)cleverness 45 thinks he can toss Bidens way.
