Reagan, at 69, was the oldest President ever to take office.

Ron Paul will be 77 next January.

I hadn't realized he was that much older even than Reagan. Why does this matter? Half of Americans have Alzheimers by the age of 85. And Alzheimer's takes years to develop.

That is not something to worry about. I suspect he knows this, and is running mainly to get his issues aired as much as possible in the media.

8. About 50% over the age of 85, and that doesn't include other forms of dementia.

I'm not an ageist, just a realist who can remember Reagan's 2nd term.

According to the Mayo Clinic, the incidence of Alzheimer's disease increases with age. Between the ages of 65 to 74, about 5 percent of people have Alzheimer's disease, but over the age of 85, about 50 percent of people have Alzheimer's. Over 90 percent of all cases of Alzheimer's disease occur in people aged 65 or older, says the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke. The Merck Manual states that on average, victims of Alzheimer's disease die about 7 years after their diagnosis.
