We'll see if this actually brings any "change" to the White House, though...

He's a budget guy.

But none of this really matters. The Chief of Staff job really doesn't have ideological or policy implications: it's all about management--managing the President's time and who he meets with (access), getting the WH agenda (as decided by the President, in conjunction with his Cabinet) put into play. He'll have to be an organization man.

Aside: In an appallingly embarrassing typo, I put "Jacob Jew" instead of "Lew" into the search engine, which returns biblical references to Jacob. But turns out Jack Lew's a Jew, too!

Are you kidding? Chiefs of Staff are notoriously political -- they have the President's ear like few others and do make themselves and their views heard loud and clear.

but they don't make the decisions. We've seen this time and again: the CoS in the end, must carry out what the President decides.

that Obama believes he will be at loggerheads with Congress on budget matters in the months to come. Daley didn't appear to relish the job.

It is an awkward turn of events for a man who seems more comfortable negotiating with Republicans than excoriating them, as Mr. Obama has over the last couple of weeks, as cold-hearted defenders of the rich.

I have an initial impression that Lew will be less reticent about taking on the battle. I hope this signals a new plan of attack from the White House. We will see.
