Thanks, Beto!

I don't know if we will win Texas but the fact that we are even talking about it as a real possibility is largely due to the massive GOTV efforts of Beto O'Rourke. That's not hyperbole. He has worked his ass off.

When Beto dropped out of the race, he didn't whine about the media or unfair debate practices or DNC favorites or whatever, he went back to Texas and got to work. When he wasn't invited to speak at the convention and his supporters were pissed off, Beto didn't stoke that anger for personal gain, he defused it and encouraged us to get to work for Joe and Kamala and M.J.

The media tried to paint Beto as just a show pony but he is a work horse. So thank you, Beto. Thank you for your massive fundraising efforts, thank you for helping to register millions of new voters, thank you for organizing thousands of volunteers, thank you for the 5 million phone calls. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

He drops in and calls with us too. We are assigned by the campaign we want to support so the dialer sends us local folks

The number of calls being made is phenominal and I know this work is contributing heavily to the turnout.

6. "All of it with good cheer." Yes!

He is always very positive. Of all of the candidates this season, Beto is the one that got "the treatment" from the media but he never whined about that or played the victim. And, whenever anyone asked him about the convention snub, he would just laugh and say "I'm pretty busy trying to turn Texas blue." Always positive. Always productive.

10. If anyone can do Texas it will be Beto

It appears he went quietly into the night, but really he was wise to do so. He was a lightning rod much like E. Warren or Sanders. I think Beto's GOTV Texas operation is a case study for what we can do. If he can help flip Texas, Dems can do it anywhere. Well, yeah, I know, Montana, Idaho, S. Dakota ... but you know what I'm saying.

I'd rather have that Senate seat than Texas' ECV, but that's only because I don't think it will be the deciding margin. But you never know. Looks right now like it will be the other way around.

Cornyn is really showing lately what a complete piece of shit he is. Every time he tweets some dumbass thing, I donate to M.J.

I want Texas electoral college votes so the election will be over that night and so that Trump and the repubs will experience the total humiliation they deserve.

49. not only will the number of votes cinch it...TX mail in is counted by close of polls

and we see those numbers immediately along with in person early voting.

as of a week ago, Tarrant County had sent out 86000 mail in ballots and were still sending. Deadline for VBM applications was Friday.

I tracked my vote and it is in, cleared and ready to be counted.

35. pamela...

Thank you so much for this post!

As a native Texan who's lived in California for most of my adult life, Texas is still "in" me. Both of my nephews and their wives live there (and have never lived anywhere else) and they are very, very progressive. They all live in Austin. They've spoken often about the amazing work that Beto has done. I'd love it if there was a place for him (if he wanted it) in the Biden administration or in D.C. with the Democrats. But I've heard a couple of different things regarding his plans. I think I read somewhere that he's thinking about teaching at one of the universities in TX. I also think I heard that he may run in a congressional district for the House in D.C. Whatever he decides, I think he's got a great future.

36. Beto is great!

Powered by People has done an incredible job of getting out the vote here in Texas. I've received numerous texts and email messages from them, reminding me to vote. I voted the first day of early voting because I waited 4 long years to do that and couldn't wait! Now I get texts thanking me for voting and asking me to remind 3 friends. They are definitely on top of things.

My Family and I moved to Texas in 2006 and I never received any attention like this from Texas Democrats until Beto. It's great to feel like my general election vote will actually make a difference, especially now that I recently moved from a red to blue county.

Until Beto, no one had ever contacted me about voting Dem in Texas. I always voted but it felt hopeless. Beto and Powered by People have been amazing!

We voted early too. We had to vote absentee from New Mexico. We rented a post office box just for our ballots and sent them back Priority Mail so we could track them. They made it!

47. I was really angry about that.

I follow a lot of Beto supporters on Twitter and it was starting to get ugly. A lot of politicians would have capitalized on that to promote themselves but Beto was having none of it. He was interviewed on MSNBC the day the anger was really starting to turn into something and Beto was so chill about it, everyone just calmed down. The DNC owes him for that, too, but they probably don't even know that.

I typically will come to this site every day since I'm aligned with 99% of the views here...but I've never posted. This thread compelled me to change that. I am fully in the camp that Beto has been an unsung hero this cycle and ever since 2016 and before. I have high hopes that he will get the recognition he truly deserves as the years go by.

I have hopes also that Texas will be blue in a few days...and when that happens, we owe so much to Beto!

I really think your post says a lot about Beto's effect on those of us on DU that are here in TX. I've been lurking here since the very early days of DU. I finally joined in 2006 because I was locked out the night of the 2004 election because I wasn't a member and I wanted to make sure I could access DU during the 2006 election. I very seldom post, but today, I wanted to make sure to show my appreciation for Beto. My earlier post in this thread was the first I have made in many years.
