..Our side will show them how rules can be broken. If we get a strong majority, then we will increase the size of the court. That will be an ugly, mean, and vicious fight but it will happen. Other fights will make this one look quite ordinary.
So we must get out and vote and get that strong majority in the Senate.
As someone pointed out..."The fight has just begun." And Yes,..."It has just begun."

(36,744 posts)Getting rid of completely makes the world possible with a Dem House, Senate and President.
If the American people give us all three, it is a mandate for real change.

(539 posts)I said they could not have voted in Amy with a simple majority if we hadn't gotten rid of the filibuster already.
Now that that is done, we have no choice but to get rid of the rest of them.
I want it completely eliminated.
GONE.

(19,264 posts)To be clear though it wasn't Democrats it was Republicans in 2017 which carved out an exception for Supreme Court justices.
Why do you think Republicans would leave it in place to block themselves? Do you really think that. Moscow Mitch was going to just rollover and say I can remove the rule on Supreme Court justices and get a Supreme Court justice but nope I won't do that. So why didn't he do that?
It never served any purpose other than to block Democrats who clutch at pearls not wanting to change things. The cloture vote requires 60 votes BUT at any point it can be changed for any reason with 50 votes. It was a tissue paper wall. Republicans routinely watered it down (like removing it on Supreme Court justices in 2017) when they needed to.

(19,264 posts)Republicans DO WHAT THEY CAN. If they have power and the letter of the law allows them to do something they do it.
Did the letter of the law allow Mitch to block Garland? Yes and he did it in 2016.
Did the letter of the law allow Mitch to remove the cloture (filibuster) vote on Supreme Court justices? Yes and he did it in 2017.
Did the letter of the law allow Mitch to railroad Amy? Yes and he did it in 2020.
Seeing a pattern.

(19,945 posts)fundamental change through, and come down on any wavering Dem, nervous about 2022. People need to understand the consequences. If the American people see the change happening that they have been crying out for, it will benefit Democrats in 22, and beyond.

(38,403 posts)Pelosi and Schumer will not be kind. What McConnell did to get this court appointee on the Supreme Court will be the key. He went around the rules to get it done immediately...
...It was done. Payback will be amazing. I think we will all be surprised.
