I have worked phone banks for many campaigns and never had an encounter like last night.
As a phone banker you are instructed to ask for a specific person and that is who you talk to. If they say they are not supporting your candidate, you might ask if they would like to share why, but those questions are for early in the campaign, not the last week.
So last night I get a call and they ask me if I am voting for congressional candidate Nancy Mace as we live in South Carolina.
I told the person not only NO, but hell NO!
That should have been the end of the call, but NO, this idiot thought he could change my mind.
I toyed with the asshole for about 5 minutes and finally told him to just hang up on me because I will keep telling you why I cant vote for a republican.
Only republicans want to argue with you thinking they are going to change your mind.

(13,883 posts)Ain't THAT the truth.. I had to cut a long time relationship with an old friend b/c of this . When ever we would meet or talk on the phone the conversation ALWAYS came around to why conservative values were better than liberal values and ideas. Which Dem was stupid and why the repuke was better for me/him and mankind in general. It did not help that he thought he was the smartest guy in the room b/c he is a successful private business owner, Fox noise fan and a patriotic gun owner. Other than that I really like the guy.
I don't like to talk politics, religion or sports... too divisive..
YMMV

Lib and Proud, I no longer live in SC (St Louis for me now) but please, please, please get Jamie Harrison across the finish line! My friends back in Columbia are stoked we just may be able to do it!

(16,083 posts)used to call others.
That's why I answer Republican polling calls every so often and take my time toying with them. I am so bored and tired of being at home all the time, so that may be part of it too.

(6,926 posts)but long enough that we did not have called ID, I answered such a call.
The question was about a Republican candidate and I responded "Wow, did you get the wrong house". To his credit, the caller laughed. We ended the call politely.

(11,517 posts)The stupid asshole wouldn't give up and I had nothing better to do right then so I wasted 10 minutes of her time. I finally got tired of it and sat the phone down on my desk while she was nonstop talking.

(1,384 posts)Mace's ads are late & horrid. Her ads actually hurt her cause. Between Cunningham is a China loving commie who sleeps with Pelosi, & Jamie Harrison is all about putting hundreds of leftist radicals on the SOTUS... Cunningham does folksy ads with his brothers & parents, Mace copies him & falls flat, then Mace goes back to the negative ads.
Cunningham defined Mace early, Mace has never been able to climb out of that hole.
Most effective for Cunningham, are the ads directed at veterans with General Patton's grandson with Patton's boots...

(3,471 posts)Ask about when Trump is going to send me another $1200 check, when the COVID vaccine is going to be out, when he'll get the price of gas down below $1/gallon, when he's going to get the wall built, etc, and keep going round in circles until the idiot figures out that I'm deliberately wasting their time.
I have a lot of practice with idiot telemarketers trying to get me to give out my credit card number for a "lower your interest rate" scam. I have a list of fake numbers from a "generate test credit card numbers" site (intended as a source of dummy numbers for testing purposes) on my computer for just such occasions; once, I kept one of them on the line long enough to go through four different fake numbers before he figured out I was jerking him around and hung up.
