Oct 2020

The access road was narrow, and the traffic leaving the parking lots was so heavy that it became one-way, and the buses were prevented from getting to the people waiting for them.

This is the sort of snafu that happens when there is little real planning--and little awareness of or concern for the needs and well-being of the little people.

People were parking in the airport parking lots and taking the shuttles to the rally location. Both main lots were full, and the buses were making numerous runs back and forth to transport them to/from the rally, so it wouldn't have been possible to shelter them all.

Eppley is a relatively small airport with minimal access, mostly from one main road. It's really not designed for that kind of volume.

yes, they shouldn't have come to the event... now that they did, there was a duty yo shuttle them from distant parking lots to the event AND BACK ( you all seem to forget that they already rode the bus from the parking lot to the crowded area for the Trump speech... a speech that could have been make at the White House and sent directly to the laptops and smart phones of all the attendees to start with, thus avoiding the entire problem... but Trump calls that hiding in the basement ).

These people all made a really stupid decision. Sometimes stupid decisions lead to terrible consequences. I would give them a pass if they were young people because young people tend to make stupid decisions, but these were seniors who you'd think would know better.

Although she wasn't doing the driving, having to depend on like 70 to 100 others to be on time when getting back onto/off of the bus drove her nuts, and then of course, she didn't have the freedom to stop and putter like she used to do, or just plain stop and visit a particular area for the length of time she wanted. She got out of it very quickly, I agree w/ you that these seniors should have known better, especially knowing that the weather could turn for the worse. Well, unfortunately, now the seniors now know how trump will help them when gets tough (or any of his cronies).

Unfortunately a lot of trump nuts won't listen to anyone or any reasoning worth listening to. A sad thing but a (imho) sign of inability to separate truth from fact (they're blinded by their herd mentality). If they are not careful, the lions will pick them off (the herd) despite being told repeatedly that it's dangerous to listen to such dangerous nonsense that trump sprouts out constantly. And the lions (the crooks and scumbags that associate with them) are dangerous.

Take care and be safe!

57. A senior friend of mine convinced me to go on a seniors trip one time.
Wed Oct 28, 2020, 01:57 PM
Oct 2020

It wasn't even a long trip or one where we stayed overnight and I swore I'd never do that again. Even though we both were seniors ourselves, both of us are very fit and healthy and not an extra pound on our bodies. We are also both educated people and in our 70's. I have more patience than she does, but even mine was wearing thin. Everyone knew well in advance that because we were crossing over the border to Canada we would need our passports and the number of them who forgot to bring them was amazing. Then there were the ones who were rude and talked over the tour guide so much and so loud that it took the guide all his strength not to do a Biden and say, "Will you shut up already?"

Seriously, we both decided that it wasn't worth the hassle. And yes, even though we were told what time to get back to the bus, many of them were too busy shopping for more gew gaws and doo dads in the shops to pay attention to the time. My friend and I who are somewhat minimalists at this age, both said, "What in the hell do they need to go all this way to a beautiful natural area and all they can think about is buying some crap made in China that they can get anywhere else and really don't need?"

I'm so glad I did a lot of travel in my younger years, mostly within the US and Canada, mostly to see national parks and seashores.

So, let me get this straight. People come to a Trump rally, that they plan on attending unmasked. There is not enough parking at the venue. So, unmasked for the most part, they are crammed into buses.

I don't know when the last time you rode a bus was. I've ridden exactly ONE since March 2020, and there was a huge sign before you boarded that said MASKS REQUIRED. Inside the bus, at least two thirds of the seats were taped off (maybe more), so you had to sit by yourself at least six feet (I think it was more) apart from other riders. It was also so sanitized when it got to me at the first stop you could still smell it. On the bus I rode into town, there were three riders. On the one I rode back, maybe seven. Exit and entry were at different doors.

I'm guessing the situation in Omaha was not like I described above - the people were likely crammed into these shuttles. So, after they were exposed to the virus on the way over, exposed again at the rally, and then left out in the cold for their immune systems to weaken, they were then (finally) crammed back onto buses again, for a third crack at exposure.

There has been folly at this other events, but this is going to be a holiday season carnage.
