(17,982 posts)Joe because of going to the Y, but listened to Kacie Hunt at 5. Nothing. I heard nothing on CNN either.
Pretty bad when you have to go to Twitter to get news.
They had the Police scans and everything. 7 people taken to the Hospital. Some of those people tried to walk over 3 miles. Police picking up people and the blanking cable news, nothing! Maybe a short blurb.

(29,199 posts)hopefully TLP has footage that they can use to make an ad... play it in Florida senior communities... old people abandoned to freeze to death because the Trump campaign is short funds to have the buses take them back to their cars
allegory to what is planned for social security
tblue37
(65,290 posts)The access road was narrow, and the traffic leaving the parking lots was so heavy that it became one-way, and the buses were prevented from getting to the people waiting for them.
This is the sort of snafu that happens when there is little real planning--and little awareness of or concern for the needs and well-being of the little people.
lapfog_1
(29,199 posts)the buses wait at the venue... then people board the bus and are at least out of the cold weather. there was no need for the buses to leave and return
TwilightZone
(25,456 posts)People were parking in the airport parking lots and taking the shuttles to the rally location. Both main lots were full, and the buses were making numerous runs back and forth to transport them to/from the rally, so it wouldn't have been possible to shelter them all.
Eppley is a relatively small airport with minimal access, mostly from one main road. It's really not designed for that kind of volume.
lapfog_1
(29,199 posts)that's only 100 of the tour bus size... import them from KC or something if needed, leave the buses on the runway ( I'm sure the airspace was closed ).
This was poor planning to the max. but expected from the same people bringing you "herd infection" as an answer to a deadly pandemic

(29,199 posts)to the virus. Exposure to freezing temps as night fell is a more direct threat to their health.
yes, they shouldn't have come to the event... now that they did, there was a duty yo shuttle them from distant parking lots to the event AND BACK ( you all seem to forget that they already rode the bus from the parking lot to the crowded area for the Trump speech... a speech that could have been make at the White House and sent directly to the laptops and smart phones of all the attendees to start with, thus avoiding the entire problem... but Trump calls that hiding in the basement ).

(37,748 posts)Yet you do think the resulting and more immediate hypothermia, plus the hundreds or thousands wholly unprotected from the virus at rally itself is a wee bit more exigent and critical than potential transmission in buses... yes?
Yikes.

(15,536 posts)I have to wonder how intelligent they are to know that it's going to be frigid, know that there's a pandemic raging, know that you are in a classification of being more vulnerable to illness, and still you think it's a good idea to go out in it just to see a charlatan spew lies at you?
These people all made a really stupid decision. Sometimes stupid decisions lead to terrible consequences. I would give them a pass if they were young people because young people tend to make stupid decisions, but these were seniors who you'd think would know better.

(22,100 posts)around the USA on a bus w/ some friends and she didn't like it one bit. Although she wasn't doing the driving, having to depend on like 70 to 100 others to be on time when getting back onto/off of the bus drove her nuts, and then of course, she didn't have the freedom to stop and putter like she used to do, or just plain stop and visit a particular area for the length of time she wanted. She got out of it very quickly, I agree w/ you that these seniors should have known better, especially knowing that the weather could turn for the worse. Well, unfortunately, now the seniors now know how trump will help them when gets tough (or any of his cronies).

(17,982 posts)With AAA, but they are well planned. Both the Hostess and Bus Driver keep a close check on the group. Counted, double checked. Same with River boat Casinos.
I never saw anything like this. The buses are warmed, idling, waiting right at the door. If they are 2 or 3 down the Driver is always at the door to guide you!
SWBTATTReg
(22,100 posts)so perhaps the choice of bus service was rather limited. AAA is a good organization too, I'd recommend them too.
I'm guessing like some said, that the trump campaign stiffed the bus companies or something similar, and thus, the passengers suffered. It wouldn't surprise me.

(17,982 posts)If she was on a public bus they would not be fun. At my age I want security. I alwYs had someone with me, often a whole group.
Even on Cruises if you went on day trips you had your driver making sure you were all right.
But public buses are a different thing.

(22,100 posts)trump's book and all of that crap. Despite that, I still loved my dad (he's gone now) and he did listen to me when I spoke to him about issues and such, in a respectful and thoughtful manner, which is fair. He was a good man, and did listen to people.
Unfortunately a lot of trump nuts won't listen to anyone or any reasoning worth listening to. A sad thing but a (imho) sign of inability to separate truth from fact (they're blinded by their herd mentality). If they are not careful, the lions will pick them off (the herd) despite being told repeatedly that it's dangerous to listen to such dangerous nonsense that trump sprouts out constantly. And the lions (the crooks and scumbags that associate with them) are dangerous.
Take care and be safe!

(15,536 posts)It wasn't even a long trip or one where we stayed overnight and I swore I'd never do that again. Even though we both were seniors ourselves, both of us are very fit and healthy and not an extra pound on our bodies. We are also both educated people and in our 70's. I have more patience than she does, but even mine was wearing thin. Everyone knew well in advance that because we were crossing over the border to Canada we would need our passports and the number of them who forgot to bring them was amazing. Then there were the ones who were rude and talked over the tour guide so much and so loud that it took the guide all his strength not to do a Biden and say, "Will you shut up already?"
Seriously, we both decided that it wasn't worth the hassle. And yes, even though we were told what time to get back to the bus, many of them were too busy shopping for more gew gaws and doo dads in the shops to pay attention to the time. My friend and I who are somewhat minimalists at this age, both said, "What in the hell do they need to go all this way to a beautiful natural area and all they can think about is buying some crap made in China that they can get anywhere else and really don't need?"
I'm so glad I did a lot of travel in my younger years, mostly within the US and Canada, mostly to see national parks and seashores.

(27,800 posts)So, let me get this straight. People come to a Trump rally, that they plan on attending unmasked. There is not enough parking at the venue. So, unmasked for the most part, they are crammed into buses.
I don't know when the last time you rode a bus was. I've ridden exactly ONE since March 2020, and there was a huge sign before you boarded that said MASKS REQUIRED. Inside the bus, at least two thirds of the seats were taped off (maybe more), so you had to sit by yourself at least six feet (I think it was more) apart from other riders. It was also so sanitized when it got to me at the first stop you could still smell it. On the bus I rode into town, there were three riders. On the one I rode back, maybe seven. Exit and entry were at different doors.
I'm guessing the situation in Omaha was not like I described above - the people were likely crammed into these shuttles. So, after they were exposed to the virus on the way over, exposed again at the rally, and then left out in the cold for their immune systems to weaken, they were then (finally) crammed back onto buses again, for a third crack at exposure.
There has been folly at this other events, but this is going to be a holiday season carnage.

(526 posts)trump, again, made excuses about the amount of buses they had. But, apparently they didn't have enough buses and he refuses (again) to take the responsibility, like a child, for the apparent screw up of his campaigning snafu...
