Wore my Biden mask to work today

So so so many nasty stink eyes and a happy greeting from me each time they walk by. All most with no masks. I'm feeling good today knowing they are sour.

Oh but it doesn't stop there. As I was leaving to head home after stocking that store. Some dude flipped me off and I just smiled and blew him a kiss. He stormed off

I'm a walking troll in this conservative community.

Yesterday we got a delivery of fun socks, including lovely gay pride socks in 2 sizes.
I put them in the center of the wall display. Afterwards, the owner told me to bring anyone wearing tRump gear to that display, to make sure they see it. Lol

Today I put a sign with our holiday skeleton that says
"So sorry I didn't wear a mask"
Couldn't manage to post a photo.

I'm in NC, a very repug town and county, but with a mask mandate. Seeing a few more folks without masks lately, unwilling to wear one when we offer them one. They leave, which is fine with us!

in a Union Shop and politics at work was absolutely off limits. You could hold conversations with a few folks here and there, but never on the sales floor and never ever was there to be any political buttons or material. It still wasn't difficult to figure out where folks stood, one only need to listen to them a bit.

My employer's policy is for travel to/from work, we wear our own face covering as required by the local government. (And they mailed every employee a packet of 5 cloth and 10 disposable masks this spring).
Once at work, you must change to a company-provided mask (obtained from either your supervisor or the security desk). I thought that was a little odd at first, but seeing some of the news of controversies, realized it deftly sidesteps the political/controversial mask message issue as well as the "neck-gaiter of questionable efficacy" or "N95 with exhaust vent" issue.

When local political candidates used to ask me to put their sign in my window I used to do three things:

1. Laugh at them.

2. Explain to them that I have nothing to gain by pissing off half of my customers to help them get elected.

3. Tell them if they are too dumb to understand this about business, why would I want to vote for them?

He shares my views about Trump, but he knows some other people in the office are Trump supporters, and it was the day Trump was diagnosed with COVID and he didn't want to make anyone feel uncomfortable. So he offered me an N95 mask, which I was happy to accept. He probably wouldn't have said anything if I hadn't apologized for wearing a partisan mask to work (it was the only one I could find that day).

Eating? Sure. Smoking? Certainly. Smiling though, seems an action masks can't prevent.

Not the masks I wear, anyways... But as always, I plead ignorance and will defer to The Wise and Concerned on possible mask-induced musculature constriction.

75. A real smile does not only move the mouth.
Thu Oct 29, 2020, 07:02 AM
Oct 2020

People’s ability to recognize emotional expressions does not get worse if their mouth and nose are covered. A real smile does not only move the mouth. Facial muscles—the zygomaticus major and the orbicularis oculi—also contract. The corners of the mouth turn up, and laugh lines appear around the eyes. Observing the area around the eyes is usually enough to recognize someone else’s feelings.

A little confusion around fear and surprise. For both emotions, we usually open our eyes wide. We express fear by widening the mouth. And if we’re surprised, we open it. If the mouth and nose are covered, we cannot see these differences.

Hope that helps.

As you said, there are many other signs to a smile and not just the face. I have alway been good at reading body language so I think that helps.

The other thing that drives me up the wall are people claiming you can not see who someone is or recognize them. There is a lot more than just the mouth. Voice is very telling. If my totally blind friend can recognize people by just hearing them then so can we.

I wouldn't have though something as benign and inconsequential as simply wearing a Biden mask to work would result in so much (allegedly) sincere (alleged) consternation and brow-furrowing.

I guess I'm as puzzled by their reaction as they are (allegedly) with you wearing a Biden mask to work.

I was driving alongside a MAGA truck yesterday, American and Texas flags flying off the tailgate, Trump/Pence sticker on the back, long, shaggy bearded driver with dark glasses and a ball cap. His truck was old but seemed to have a good engine. I was scared just looking at him. He looked like so many of the Proud Boys we've seen attacking protesters. I was hoping he wouldn't follow me. I was glad I was in the company car with no political stickers on it. I'm very nervous these days and I'm usually never afraid of anything.
