9 people charged with misdemeanors for holding close to 400 person Halloween party in NYC

Nine people were charged with misdemeanors and health violations after police shut down a Halloween party in New York City that had close to 400 people in attendance. Police shut down the 387-person celebration at around 1 a.m. on Saturday in a Brooklyn warehouse near East Williamsburg, NBC News reported.

The New York City Sheriff's office released photos of the event showing people tightly packed together where some people were without masks. Those who were charged in the incident were reportedly the party organizers who authorities say ignored city and state COVID-19 emergency mandates.

The party crack-down comes the same week New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) said he sees a "worrisome" uptick in COVID-19 infections throughout the city.

News of the Halloween party comes as the U.S. has recorded record one-day totals of coronavirus cases in the past week. On Friday, the U.S. confirmed over 90,000 new cases.

I was debating whether to call 311. There were at least 75 people, most with no masks. I mean, there were maybe two people with masks. There was a DJ and much drinking and jollity.
Found out later that multiple people had called the police, fire, city. The super was bouncing around going ballistic.
Nobody responded.
The people in the building knew who had sponsored the party. They tried to get it stopped. Nobody listened. They were concerned because there were high risk people in the building and it was an old building with one creaky elevator and an old, steep staircase.
Sadly, the only repercussion was that the Super closed off future access to the roof for all the tenants.
Damn.

We have a state phone number where you can report violators.
Doesn't have to be at the moment.

If you're aware of someone, some business, etc that violates,
you can report them.
Also Albuquerque PD is stepping up enforcement of violations.

Check your area/state coronavirus hot line online.

Nobody responded.
Aside from storming the roof, I don’t know what we could have done.
NY does have a need for a weapons license.

In addition to COVID risk, these spaces usually don't have fire exits sufficient for 400 people to get out in the event of an emergency, since they're not intended for something like this. I hope the charges don't get dropped.
