Fauci just struck a decisive blow to Trump

What he just did, publicly breaking with Trump and sounding the alarm, is way more devastating than what Comey pulled on Clinton 11 days before the election I think. Imagine if you were pro Trump and this dropped in the closing days? They must be irate and panicking. There is natural anxiety because even though it looks good, we won’t rest easy until it’s really over and we are victorious. This is good. It drives people to act and if our goal was to bank our votes ahead of time to avoid any imperial entanglements, drive early voter turnout through the roof and bring in a ton Democratic voters who sat out 2016, I am pleased with what I am seeing and proud of all those who worked so hard to achieve this remarkable feat. Go team blue! Full pedal to the metal and let’s finish strong!

He's certainly not the first or only to stand in mute horror beside the "stupid kabuki" of "showman" Trump. If you have a long lived and highly respected career as an expert "anything" in the federal monolith, you're not expecting total ass-hattery from the oval office. Especially when you appear, even only as a prop, to help provide legitimacy for some inscrutable plan. You might even be inclined to go along so as to aid the executive to, as you are able, deal with a pandemic because it's, like, your duty. But even now he's not gone totally up front, full blown righteously outraged. A very constrained (non-political my ass)Republican is our Fauci. Who for too long let the whole truth hang out to dry and it's too late to remedy that. History will not leave him unscathed. By his proximity will his acquiescence be discerned as complicity. A perfect example of bureaucratic "Peter Principle" in action.

Another casualty of the "perfect storm" which yet blows. Except this one isn't anonymous.

Now that it won't make any difference, lots of folks are getting very chatty so they are on the record as having disagreed with Donny Bodybags.

I find it creepy and cowardly.

He is a weasel and coward. He SHOULD have spoken out from day 1, either in the administration or outside of it.

Imagine a daily fauci spot telling the unvarnished scientif facts without trump shutting him up and moving some clown in to talk.

He blew it for selfish reasons. He wanted to keep his job.

Fire him with the rest and let him go on a talk show. It's all he deserves at this point.

Let's not forget it was his arrogance - believing chinese labs could enhance the virus and control it - that funded the science that could have caused this.

every time he appeared.

If he was OUTSIDE the administration, his word would have carried more weight. As it is, he just hemmed and hawed, dancing around the truth. He hurt his reputation greatly. He was only slightly better than the scarf lady, Dr. Birx, who was a bona fide embarrassment to the medical community.

Does he go all out and risk getting replaced by someone as nutty as Atlas? Or does he do what he can to mitigate as much damage as possible without risking getting booted by the orange lunatic? It's not an easy call for him or Birx. With the country literally on the precipice of burning to the ground, maybe he just had enough and figured it was time to gut the son of a bitch.

Three or four weeks ago, new cases were lower than the summer peak. He might have felt he would be seen as an alarmist and loose credibility in the face of a full on Donnie attack. He might have feared losing his job would open the door to more nutty yes men like Atlas. That part might still be the case. People in this country have to have reality literally shoved in their goddamn faces to get their attention. They're finally seeing reality now. Reality experts have been warning about for months. Welcome to the greatest nation of unthinking clods the world has ever seen.

And even then, some right-wingers have already written him off.

Plus at this point, it looks like more than half of those who are going to vote have probably already voted.

But I suppose it could still have some impact, and every bit helps.

by this time, minds have mostly been made up. And trumpanzees have already demonized Fauci enough by now so that few will be swayed at this point.

Probably the only real effect is that Fauci will need to beef up his personal security even more, as the trumpanzees will ratchet up more death threats. It's what they do after all.
