Fauci Offers Blunt Assessment of Trump
October 31, 2020 at 8:51 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard

“President Trump’s repeated assertions the United States is ’rounding the turn’ on the novel coronavirus have increasingly alarmed the government’s top health experts,” the Washington Post reports.

Said Dr. Anthony Fauci: “We’re in for a whole lot of hurt. It’s not a good situation. All the stars are aligned in the wrong place as you go into the fall and winter season, with people congregating at home indoors. You could not possibly be positioned more poorly.”

Fauci also noted that Joe Biden “is taking it seriously from a public health perspective” while Trump is “looking at it from a different perspective.”

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the more conservative a Catholic is, the more likely they lean towards Papal infallibility? That's got to make some heads explode.

Their "pope" is Benedict. Conservative Catholicism in America is in a real weird place. You wouldn't know this, it was kind of inside baseball, but in 2019 conservative clerics tried to mount a "coup" against Francis -- convoluted, I won't try to explain -- and I ate popcorn because it obviously wouldn't work. American Catholics are only eight percent of the church, the focus is elsewhere in the world, churches in other hemispheres supported Francis, no one cared what those 20 or so American bishops had to say. It is a weird, weird time.

The American church is in a really weird place, thanks to the positioning of some very conservative bishops. Francis has even said that a schism between the world church and the American church wouldn't surprise him.

Francis has been pushing climate change as a top priority for a while. The American bishops met for their annual conference and decided climate change was "not a priority." What was? Abortion.

Nuttery & hypocrisy abound. The men who run it are still stuck in the 1800s. They do not like vatican II's changes &they certainly are not fans of pope Francis.

and so ignore the American shenanigans. Sixty-six percent of the church is in the Third World, so the future is there.

Some of us lose sight of the fact that it is a truly global religion. And in the grand scheme, there just aren't all that many Amurkins.

It was very accurate. The reporter made the good point that American Catholicism will be going the way of the Evangelicals if things don't change.

She also pointed out that America is no longer the church's favorite son. (As in the Kennedy era.) The focus is elsewhere.

btw, 66 percent of the church is in the third world, which is a challenge because of cultural differences as well as religious tenets. Why I found the pope's recent comments on same-sex unions so encouraging.

According to him, we are guided by Satan and hell bent on "destroying America", but he isn't too overly concerned because ... well, the rapture.
