But people not passing out candy, or parents taking their kids around. For me, no matter where I lived, it was always a neighborhood event. If I wasn't walking around with my kids, I was handing out candy, and making comments about the costumes. I remember the first time we were allowed to go out without the older kids, and the last year my kids were allowed to trick or treat, we let them go by themselves. I don't know if it was scarier for them or for us. For whatever reason, Halloween as I remember it, is a thing of the past on my red, red, red, street. Plenty of trump signs in place of jack o' lanterns.

This year we decorated but I wasn't handing out anything to little vectors of disease. Can't trust their parents to be the type to wear a mask or engage in social distancing. I fully blame their parents in this. Children can be a challenge in the best of health conditions - I used to teach - but in pandemic conditions? No way. Children need their parents to show them they way - wash hands, cover mouth, keep hands out of mouth, don't dive into a candy bowl, etc.. (and some don't)
We closed the driveway gate and watched horror movies.
After the pandemic passes. Not before.
I detest those religious "haunted houses", too.

(23,336 posts)Past years, there would be some kids walking around with a parent. And some moving in large hordes, very cute locusts seeking candy. I didn't want to think about the effort to stay safe.
Hopefully next year we can turn the porch light on again.

(2,626 posts)I've lost count of how many times they've said, "I'll have to look into it" when I tell them what their beloved leader is really doing with his policies. But, they never do look. They believe they're right and that's all that matters to them.

(23,336 posts)At least, that's how I remember it in the year 1320. Scary stuff.
