Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI think Trump's threats to challenge the election are all fake.
Im sure his advisors are telling him it wont do any good if Biden wins by a substantial margin which is nearly certain he will. Trump's entire game plan has been to suppress the Democratic vote. This idea he will mount a legal challenge to the vote and win regardless of the vote tally is sending a message to Democrats that their vote doesnt matter so why bother.
Its not going to work as most Democrats are onto his lies and fake absurd claims, and in fact this could cause even more to show up that might not have.
We are gong to win big Tuesday and there's nothing Trump can do it about.

(25,454 posts)This has been beaten to death, but Trump can't do anything to force anyone to override state law where elections are concerned. They're done when they're done counting or when their state laws say they're done.
Even John Roberts has said that courts don't determine election law, state legislatures do. Trump's advisors certainly know what the message is there.

(15,751 posts)trump may not win, but anyone can walk into a court and sue, and delay . . .
TwilightZone
(25,454 posts)Once states are called by the news agencies and media, courts are going to be highly reluctant to touch anything related. They also know what Roberts was signaling.
Besides, Trump's out of cash. Other than Dershowitz, I'm not sure who's willing to work for loser Trump pro bono.

(7,498 posts)I don't know if people have noticed but drumpf doesn't do most of what he says he is going to do, either through incompetence or because he can't, which is what will happen after the election. How is he going to pay the lawyers required to make a long-term fight. Plus the establishment repubs are almost as sick of him as the rest of us.

(111,227 posts)and while he might get a few phenomenally corrupt governors like Stitt and Abbot to go along with Barr's EC scheme, I doubt it would survive a challenge in the state courts.
What i do expect is a flurry of lawsuits filed by his mob lawyers who have been spending most of their time looking for loopholes, that and fending off criminal charges wherever he or his spawn have done business. I doubt this will go on forever, the man has a lot of really big bills coming due and I doubt his empire will survive them to the point he'll have to spend all his effort and remaining wealth on trying to stay out of prison.
While the best thing might be if he ran away, like all con men he thinks he'll beat the system if his lawyers stay at it long enough.
About the best hope he has is if he resigns when he loses and has Pence handle the transition, counting on a pardon for all Federal crimes while in office. I don't imagine Pence will be particularly thrilled with getting this dumped into his lap, so a pardon is far from certain.

(7,968 posts)Michigan, Wisconsin and critically Pennsylvania won't be reporting until at least Wednesday....
That means if we don't get Florida (which we may really not based on recent polling and other troubling signs) then the earliest indicator will be Arizona at about 10PM or later. The electoral vote will still be undecided BUT if Arizona goes blue it will likely be over.
Nevertheless, assume the worst. Assume that tRump and his lawyers will challenge everything and that those challenges will prevail. Then ask yourself how we will win? Let's NOT LET UP. FULL IN AND FULL THROUGH THE FINISH LINE.

(7,968 posts)speaking from within MI our Democratic base. Yes, MI may be in by 11PM. Election officials are working hard to make that so.
HOWEVER
Neither MI nor WI can count pre-votes UNTIL ELECTION DAY. In Michigan, no ballots can be counted until 7AM Tuesday morning. If the clerks are prepared, then they can get those votes into the database before the polls close. If they are not, it will take quite awhile.
I'll be optimistic AFTER Joe has 270+ electoral votes. Until then, I'm phone banking to help get out the Democratic vote in PA.

(9,224 posts)WI can't start processing absentees until election day.
I'm dreaming of a Blue Texas, Trump crushed, 400+ EC votes. Whatever happens, I want MAGA to know they have lost. Lost big time.

(5,366 posts)Nope, Trump is simply using his normal techniques of wishful thinking and bullying.
He has a very positive outlook on life, and being a Bigly Brained Genius, he (still) thinks Reality will conform to his wishes.
"It is what it is, because I say so. It will be what it will be, because I say so. It is going to go my way, I have a gut feeling, I have a bigly Genius Gut as well as Bigly genius Brain, polls are just Fake news, etc."
There is no room in his Bigly Genius Brain or Bigly Genius Gut to even contemplate non-success in the election game.
Throw in a few threats, run the opposition down into the ground, and he has it made. So he thinks.
Except, his enablers - those who willingly tried to make Trump's wished come true in the past, are now looking at each other and realizing they need to somehow survive and have a life after the election.
Sucks to be Trump. Sucks even more to be a Trump enabler. Karma is coming!
