John Oliver tonight gave a history and background of Bill Barr, and it was alarming. Essentially

Barr believes the president has ultimate power, and is above the law

If we are fortunate to win, I believe there is a real possibility that Barr is going to use the justice department to declare the results flawed, using arguments such as mail in ballots are not valid

I really hope we have our legal team ready to jump on this, because I think they will be needed

I abhor the initiation of violence, but we have been under constant deadly attack for four years.

He has held the same belief since before his tenure as AG during the Bush Sr. Administration. Certainly he is a political hack but his idea of the Unitary Executive has been consistent, which is why he helped to close the loop on Reagan's treason during the whole Iran-Contra scandal. Make no mistake, it was treason, but because Barr thinks the President (especially a Republican President) is above the law, he saw no crime.

then how do you explain his assigning John Durham to investigate the Obama administration regarding the Russia/Trump connection on interfering with the 2016 elections? If he was consistent in his belief that the Unitary Executive bull shit meant the president was above the law, even for Democrats, he would not have started the investigation--after all, Obama was president and therefore under Barr's Unitary Executive bs, he's above the law, so the executive branch's actions should not be investigated. But he did because he's a damn hypocrite. His UE theory is a dressed up way to excuse right wing conservative authoritarianism.

The statement was if he continued to hold the belief. He does, but like any conservative, he thinks the only legitimate power is conservative power because it supports the "natural order" of things. It isn't mutually exclusive. It is internally inconsistent but conservatives support whatever helps them to retain power and are fully capable of applying ideas only to themselves. Expecting any logical or external consistency from conservatives is folly.

Barr should be disbarred or worse for facilitating tyranny. After seeing John's expose I can't believe how many lawyers and Senators naively thought Barr would be an acceptable choice for AG.

Bush I and Raygun are war criminals but they had such praiseful funerals, Hillary admires another war criminal Henry Kissinger, etc. Barr is the great whitewasher of recent history, and to think Bush II and Cheney et al got away with scarcely a blemish.

Fortunately for us, Barr is more evil than he is smart.

he’s going to get paid handsomely for after the Trump train derails.

I can already imagine the gist of it...he was just doing all he possibly could to keep a maniac in check!
