The 2020s are very likely going to be like the 1850s.
I agree with the author in that electing Joe is stalling the inevitable breakup of the United States, whereas if Dump steals the election it will kick it into hyperdrive.

They had a President whose motto was, "Make America Great Again." I kid you not. This dystopian novel was published in 1993, before trump.
Edited to add: My library's science fiction reading group had to drop their discussion of this book. Most of the participants could not finish it. It hit too close to home.
