Absentee ballot not yet counted

Small town in southwest New Hampshire. Ballot received at local post office per tracking info on Saturday. It’s now Monday evening. According to the secretary of states website, it hasn’t yet arrived there snd has not been counted.

My daughter - it’s her ballot- will probably call tomorrow, though everyone will probably be at the polling station. Apart from checking for an update in the morning, any recommendations?

1. I think absentees are not counted unless they can affect the vote.

If the winner has a 5000 vote lead, and there are only 1000 absentee ballots, they don't need to bother counting them.

I don't know how this plays out for them receiving your vote, definitely check on it.

I voted absentee in person, and my friend works on voting software and explained this to me. "They may not need to count absentees unless the race is close."

How about County Dog Catcher? I would think they would count all ballots for the down ticket races as well.

We have a ton of local offices and propositions on the ballot this time.

11. This is not correct. All absentee ballots are counted (as long as properly submitted).

Provisional ballots are not all counted - but if they satisfy the criteria for counting, they are.

Why is voting so confusing?

Just make all of October "Election Month". I had the best experience dropping by my local Board of Elections in early October at my convenience, showing my ID, and voting on paper. This is the way they should do it for everyone (plus affordances for people who can't leave the house). Trying to have THE ENTIRE GOSHDARN COUNTRY VOTE on one Tuesday midweek is just patently absurd.

Check the rules in the applicable state. But in Ohio this is exactly correct.

4. Go and vote in person. They will call

and "spoil" (cancel) the other ballot. Might take a few minutes on the phone. Calling the election people will likely accomplish nothing, they have the same data you do, in almost all cases.

12. She doesn't have the ballot, it is lost in the mail.

She can explain that and may have to sign an affidavit that will allow her to immediately vote in person. The in person vote will render the mail in ballot void.

10. Just have her go to her voting precinct and ask to vote in person.

That should be possible in New Hampshire once she explains that her mail-in ballot is stuck in the mail.

15. Apparently she can just go vote at the polls.

You may vote a regular ballot at the polls as long as you have not already returned your voted mail ballot. Destroy the unused mail ballot.

Unfortunately, the ballot has to arrive by 5:00 PM tomorrow to be counted in NH.

18. Update

Voting day morning. Update on the Secretary of State website notes the ballot was received the status report does not have a column for ballot counted, just whether there’s a problem with the ballot. So I will assume her ballot, and ours, will be counted.
