Unlike election day 2016, where I was a nervous wreck all day, I feel oddly calm and unconcerned today. In fact it is the most at ease and optimistic I have been on an election day since 2008. I'm aware Trump isn't 100% guaranteed to lose and that the stakes are insanely high but I'm just not that worried about it. Hopefully I'm not in denial and reality won't hit me square between the eyes tonight but I just don't feel like there really is much of a chance of is losing tonight.
Some might say "remember 2016!" but I wasn't one of those people who though Hillary had it in the bag (were there people who actually thought that?). It felt like it was going to come down to the wire and while I felt Hillary was more likely to win than not, I certainly wasn't calm or confident on election day. But today, I'm at like a 3 out of 10 in terms of stress. A bit of excitement over such a big day but not the least bit anxious.
I guess I am wondering, how's everyone else feeling? Is anyone else just in typical Tuesday morning mood or am I alone in that regard?

(1,202 posts)I am not calm. I wish I were, but so be it. I simply do not trust the Trump administration and Republicans, and am dismayed by Americans that still support Trump. It doesn't help that I currently live in a totally red county just outside Chicago.

(46,788 posts)I guess it is knowing that there is nothing else I can do, so in a sense that is rather calming. The past couple of weeks, I've been 99.9% certain that Joe will win and probably win big, but of course, that pesky little .1% periodically pops up trying to throw me off.

(7,073 posts)Im a mess. I feel like this is it. We either emerge from our flirtation with autocracy, or we embrace it, and The America we imagined could exist never will be.
Chris Hayes said it last night. This is like waiting for the results of a biopsy. Even if the chances are only 10 percent of bad news, that 10 percent is real. And the consequences are devastating.

(1,989 posts)I dont think theres anything weird about it. 4 years ago, we had trepidation that this obscenity might become POsTUS, and our worries got blown away by the reality of the past 4 years. Hillary was trending downward just before Election Day, and lots of people were staying home. A new breed of violent, hateful cult members was being astroturfed. Of course we were worried.
Today, we know whats happening. Joe is trending upward. The obscenity is flailing. Theres a campaign that is stocked with people who have studied the 2016 problems and are bound and determined to not repeat. We know that victory means likely almost 3 months of insanity in D.C. and hate crimes everywhere. Many of us are expecting to be in the streets and/or protecting our homes, and weve prepped for that. Regardless, there is nothing we can do at this point but wait. Were poll watching for disruption from the taliban in their pickup trucks, offering rides, whatever we can do. But yeah - its a much more normal day full of hope for a much more normal and rational 4 years.

(22,236 posts)but now the nervousness has really set in. After all we've been through, after all we've seen happen with this incredibly corrupt asshole and his minions, now that this day is finally here I just can't rest easy, and I won't rest easy until I'm sure that Trump and/or Russia hasn't put the "fix" on this election.

(25,122 posts)Still, when he won I turned into Oprah and burst into tears. Then five minutes later got depressed because I knew everybody would blame him for Republican fuck-ups because that's what always happens to Democrats.
Economy was okay in 2016 but Republican voters thought unemployment, deficit, regulations and taxes were up because that's what they heard from right-wing media bubble. Then the opposite the moment Trump was inaugurated. No wonder they vote for him because they think the economy is great.
Biden/Harris will win. They only question is whether Democrats are blamed for Republican fuck-ups in their first two years. I feel more optimistic this time, but expect attacks immediately.
