I think in large part it is about the lack of more liberal news media in a huge portion of mostly the middle part of the country. All they hear is conservative talk radio, which then compels them to only turning on Fox News for their TV news. But its worse, because those aren't really conservative policy discussion radio programs, they are solely scare mongering programs. And they do it by lying and exaggerating and getting more and more brazen with pushing wild conspiracy theories about Democrats.

To the point that Republicans are told and finally accept, that there is no such thing as a racist or sexist etc. Those are labels which are an invention by the radical left. Im sure many have been convinced that it is just a reality that brown and black people are taking their jobs, and at the same time, brown and black people are lazy and don't want to work. Climate change is also an invention to harm the economy. "Biden built the cages" It doesn't even have to make sense anymore.

If this is all one hears, even if you just casually listen to daytime radio, it all adds up after years, decades of this kind of brainwashing.
It was a sad and fateful day when Bill Clinton signed that communications act into law.
