Centrist Democrats talk leadership changes after negative election results
By Scott Wong and Mike Lillis - 11/04/20 01:50 PM EST
Stung by their partys dispiriting showing at the polls Tuesday, two moderate House Democrats say they and other centrists are privately discussing a plan that was unthinkable just 24 hours earlier: throwing their support behind a challenger to Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).
The two Democrats told The Hill on Wednesday that they were reaching out to their colleagues about backing one of Pelosis top lieutenants, House Democratic Caucus Chairman Hakeem Jeffries (N.Y.), for Speaker in the next Congress.
The idea was immediately shot down by Jeffries, who says he's focused on keeping his current spot. Yet the grumbling reflects a remarkable shift in internal Democratic thinking in the immediate wake of Tuesdays elections.

Nancy Pelosi has more than proven her competency for the role she's in and should, IMO, continue.

(4,986 posts)I get a little crazy when people criticize Nancy P.
In my book, she deserves as much admiration as RGB, and I, for one, have that for her....

(4,607 posts)We are long overdue for new blood at the top our party. Obama was new blood and look what happened.
Pelosi is 80 years old and has been our leader in the House for well over a decade. There's no shame in letting someone else step up.
We can't be the party of youth and change if our leadership are all octagenarians.
