The Legal Threats Trump Will Face If He Loses the Election

Robbie Kaplan
@kaplanrobbie
So incredibly proud of our law firm @KaplanHecker which represents the plaintiffs in four (4) of the cases on this list. We certainly could not have done it without the bravery of our indefatigable clients, @ejeancarroll and @MaryLTrump. https://bloomberg.com/features/2020-trump-faces-lawsuits-and-legal-threats/?fbclid=IwAR02q6UXFSW5pSrI2lQn34cH_eQbfX4KHU8dRzoPYicZT9MxLbS32VqRBYk… via @business

There's more to this one than meets the eye.

Roberta A. Kaplan

Roberta A. "Robbie" Kaplan (born 1966) is an American lawyer focusing on commercial litigation and public interest matters. She co-founded the Time's Up Legal Defense Fund and is an adjunct professor of law at Columbia University Law School. She was a partner at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison before starting her own firm in 2017.

Kaplan successfully argued before the Supreme Court of the United States on behalf of LGBT rights activist Edith Windsor, in United States v. Windsor, a landmark decision that invalidated a section of the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act and required the federal government to recognize same-sex marriages.

On September 24, 2020, Kaplan's firm filed a lawsuit with the New York Supreme Court in Manhattan, on behalf of plaintiff Mary L. Trump, accusing President Donald J. Trump and his siblings, Maryanne Trump Barry and Robert Trump, of decades of financial fraud and civil conspiracy.
