70 million people voted for an unhinged lunatic.

In some ways, I'm having difficulty coming to terms with that, but in light of Trump's stable approval ratings, it doesn't surprise me as much as it probably should. I sit here watching clips of Trump's rant this evening and realizing that many, many, many people see nothing wrong with it. They applaud it. Or they think it's "worth" it to stick it to the libs.

It is a brutal indictment of nearly half the country.

That is the thing. Even if Trump loses, most of his facilitators are being returned to the Senate and the House.

Russia, Russia, Russia.

Of course, it still needs to be proven, but Trump gave enough hints before the election, such as him saying "We're going to take back the House; just wait and see." Also, Miami-Dade Co. is showing signs of a lot of suspicion....

9. Nah, his approval ratings pretty much tell the story.

He essentially lost no support. Sure, it would be easier (and, frankly, less depressing) to write it off to Russian interference or to other factors, but I think that 70 million is probably in the ballpark.

I'm not discounting anything you're suggesting, but I think we have to acknowledge that his support is quite high and ridiculously unwarranted. I have no idea what we can do about it other than keep hammering turnout for the foreseeable future.

Facts don't matter.

Reality is whatever you believe to be true.

You can present facts which show various assertions are false, but they are not believed by merely choosing to ignore them, because they contradict the thing which is believed.

Absurd nonsense is clung to despite it's incoherence because it alleviates what would otherwise be painful cognitive dissonance.

And above all, WE have the special truth, and THEY are wrong.

This time, related to social and other media, decades of right-wing propaganda, intentional ignorance, and lack of education.

that.. the Massive brainwashed cult is mind boggling in this country... they didn't care if he took their Social Security of health care or LIES about COVID & so many people died including in their families.

They're Masochists to the bone.

Thank Goodness there are more of us who can think for ourselves.

For many it's probably "white supremacy über alles."

Helps explain what happened in Germany.

They don't even need to support white supremacy. Many, many people are straight-ticket, generational Republicans, probably way more than we realize. They'll vote for any R, because they believe any R is better than any D. That's how people like Louie Gohmert end up in Congress.

I always knew that there was a lunatic fringe in America, but underestimated it grossly at around ten percent. If Trump as he bragged did shoot someone on Fifth Avenue in NYC, not only would he not lose supporters, but they'd applaud his marksmanship...
