(13,920 posts)Putin and erdrogon(sp) are politicians. I doubt they worry too much about voting or trust in voting systems.
If your goal is to see the will of the people done, voting is important. If your goal is power and money, voting is more an annoyance that you favor for only so long as its helpful

Although it is interesting to think they could be suppressing votes for themselves.
That they found it necessary to try to suppress the drive through votes in Texas shows they really thought they might lose in Texas. It's fascinating.

(58,785 posts)many citizens are already supporting leaders working on the destruction of our democracy, many cluelessly but many others wanting just that.
Most democracies that fall to authoritarian governments are "voted" out of existence by minorities created and assisted by various fascistic tactics, including creating deep divisions through demonizing the opposition and destroying faith in government, drumming up fear through civil unrest, and of course heavily reliance on all available tactics of voter suppression and election theft.
A big part of bringing it to the boiling point is creating large populations of angry "mean people" by turning people who don't know they are into the worst versions of themselves is. That was the one big piece of advice from an expert in fallen nations to citizens concerned that it could happen in their own: "Watch for mean people."
But it can't be done without substantial citizen support for eliminating their own power. And it's always out there and worse in times of anxiety. Including, according to studies, among some on the left; we're not all of us the kind of people who created our democracy, some who lack conviction are easily persuaded to support alternate "solutions." Psychologists say many people fear the responsibilities of democracy and want them taken off their shoulders by "strongman" leaders they think will take care of them, fix the problems for them, and of course force the majority, mostly in the Democratic Party, who keep outvoting them into line.
Recognize any of this happening here? Seen any mean people lately?
