Remember the concession speech in the movie "Game Change"? The sacred speech?

Came to me today.

At the end of the movie, Steve Schmidt, played by Woody Harrelson, talks to Sarah Palin, played by Julianne Moore, over Palin’s demand to deliver an concession speech with a "No!" Palin then makes a snide remark and Schmidt comes right back at her.

"Governor. This country has just elected the first African-American president in the history of its existence. And it is the concession speech that will legitimize his succession as Commander-in-Chief. It is a serious and solemn occasion and John McCain, and only John McCain, will be giving this sacred speech. This is how it has been done in every presidential election since the dawn of the Republic, and you, Sarah Palin, will not change the importance of this proud American tradition."

And now we have another Republican, a president, who won't give a concession speech - at all!

In 1992, Dan Quayle delivered a concession speech.

So, it does happen.

Bentsen also did in 1988 but he had also won reelection to the senate.
