may i just take a moment to give thanks to the black lives matter movement.
in addition to bringing attention to very important matter of black lives taken or put in jeopardy by even routine interaction with government agents (the police are agents of government, to be clear), blm as both an organization and a movement did a *ton* this election cycle to get out the vote, including notably in battleground states like georgia and pennsylvania, which may even end up making the difference in the election entirely.
with biden getting what may be over 80 million votes when all is said and done, it was a team effort, but the political efforts and the high turnout from the african-american community clearly played a vital role in winning this election and saving us from four more years of this monster.
indeed, saving our democracy, because four more years of donnie's corruption and criminality and tearing down of our government to replace it with an authoritarian approach would have meant the end of what little democracy we have left.
so
and
and thank you thank you thank you!!!

(1,725 posts)Actually, I've never missed a presidential election since Jimmy Carter in 1980, so I can't really take any credit, I'm a given. But lots of people realized this year how important they are, and that's what did it, that's what mattered!

(609 posts)Especially black women. There is a little bit of work needed in convincing some black men to support BLM and us. It can be done. I am not sure how we can convince some of Florida's Cuban American group and Venezuelans in Florida. Trump has done a job on them. Seems like a very difficult task.
I really thought more white seniors would have supported us. Dang!

(6,581 posts)Just want to add something I heard on the tv yesterday that very much pertains to this thread. It was either CNN or MSNBC. I was just walking back into the room and saw the tail end of an interviewer on the street, speaking to a black Gentleman... IIRC it was somewhere in Pennsylvania. I didn't hear any of the interview except his last words: "We've gone from picking cotton to picking Presidents."
WOW.. just wow!!!!
The tears welled up in my eyes - that's a quote for the ages!
