(4,387 posts)They are "liberal" as in "free marketeer, neo-liberal".
Surprise, surprise, they think Trump should be pardoned before any investigations have actually happened.

(25,426 posts)Their reporting is left-center as documented.
Carli Pierson is an opinion writer and a poor one at that. She does not represent the entire organization. She's basically their version of Hugh Hewitt at CNN. Would you say that CNN is right-wing solely because they employ Hugh Hewitt?
Nope.

(4,387 posts)We're going to have to agree to disagree.
If we normalize Trumps criminality we are doomed to repeat it.
If it is proven that Trump committed crimes he must be held accountable. NO ONE is above the law.

(219 posts)Joe's nature is to bring people together and begin the healing. His first impulse would be to pardon and move on.
But he can't. He can't normalize or legitimize the last 4 years. For the greater good of the country, he's got to not get involved in pardoning Trump.
Mad_Dem_X
(9,546 posts)He should NOT. Trump has done way too much damage.

(12,344 posts)I hope though he appoints a sunshine commission. We need this process to play out in public. We can't have another two year investigation where we argue about evidence we can't see.

This shit is never going to end with all the Republican frauds until they have their names permanently stained.

(32,073 posts)The Independent is deluded if they thing pardoning that shitbag is "for the good of us all." Perhaps we should rip THEIR kids away from them, and lock them in cages with nothing but a mylar blanket, and then ask them how they feel about it. And, then will look the other way when Putin puts a bounty on THEIR heads. What Trump has done to the people of this country, and to people seeking asylum here, is unforgivable and unpardonable. Fuck them.

(15,805 posts)Trump spent years bragging that he was the law and order president, so it's time to put his money where his mouth is. No pardons, no forgiveness or he (or someone with a brain which would be even worse) will rise up and do it all again.
Pull on your Big Boy pants, Trump, and for once in your miserable life, take some responsibility for your actions and face the consequences for what you did to this nation.

(10,819 posts)Biden has already said he would not stand in the way of what an independent Justice Department might do.
Trump will be prosecuted. Perhaps not at the Federal level if he resigns and has Pence pardon his ass. But certainly at the state level where pardons are useless.
He and his enablers must be held accountable for the damage they've done. Otherwise, we'll go through this again and again. Actions have consequences, as do elections.
Trump is toast.

(50,528 posts)Hunter. Biden.
Trump and his cabal attempted to destroy Joe Biden by dragging Hunter through the mud. They even manufactured a laptop full of absolute bullshit. There is absolutely no way President Biden is going to pardon Donald F. Trump*.
Trump also isn't going to resign before the inaugural. The bastard will be screaming that the election isn't over because "all the legally cast votes haven't been counted" on December 15. (The Electoral College meets on December 14 and makes President Biden's win official.) There's a slight chance Trump will show up at the ceremony screaming about how he hasn't conceded so he's still president and they have to swear him, not Biden, into office.
And forget the "he's going to pardon himself" thing. He can try. He probably will try. But if he does, the courts will decide that (1) you can't be pardoned for crimes you haven't even been investigated for yet and (2) you can't be your own judge, and nullify his self-pardon.
The only real question is, which federal penitentiary is best suited to hold a corrupt ex-president?
