I believe originally, it was composed of officers and soldiers pulled from each Branch, but they were still part of their Branch.

Mr. Graham et al seem to think this is an issue, and frankly, having to ensure my brain isn’t being eaten while I vote is a pretty big priority to me!

I think one of our priorities should be to tune out all the right-wing noise and stay clear of all Rethugs (probably best for our health, too). Along with the rest of the world, we've been neck-deep for far too long in tRump's daily deluge of lies and bullshit.

It's been a tremendous relief the last few days to visit some of my favorite news sites and not see his ugly mug plastered on every front page.

whom I had the privilege to interview. They explained to me Space Force is something needed as a way to "consolidate" redundancies in the Department of Defense around what is done in support of "war fighters." They're going to oversee acquisition of craft and act as project managers for things like DOD implementation of the GPS constellation.

By bringing it together, it allows a more focused strategic plan better integrated together across the armed services to align budgets. It sounds less like a new branch of the military and more like an inter-departmental streamlining.

So it sounds like something that was in the pipeline already, but when Trump discovered it, he decided to co-opt it for his own glory.

They expressly told me "this isn't Starfleet Academy or anybody flying in space."

It sounded as if it was in the pipeline anyway pre-Trump and would have happened with a fraction of the fanfare and folderol had it not been for Trump's determination to go down as "the Father of Space Force."

What it reminded me of was the famed SR-71 Blackbird. I seem to recall that when the US Air Force wanted to develop a long-range reconnaissance plane, they started development and then found out Lockheed had already been working on a nearly identical project for the CIA (the A-12) with similar requested parameters.

So you had two agencies, wasting resources developing the same project simultaneously because of the secrecy and rivalry in the government apparatus. Inefficiencies and waste like that are probably all over the DOD and related agencies.

I was too lazy to research it and assumed by the name this was going to have something to do with space exploration. I was thinking wow we are finally going to take the first step in creating Starfleet Academy lol.

After the Navy released films of their attempted intercepts of unknown flying objects - there may be a need.
