Trump's election meltdown is 'most dangerous period of this presidency': psychiatrist

Lee, who has taught at Yale and served as a research fellow at the National Institute of Mental Health, warned that the public should not underestimate Trump’s ability to exert his will on his political opponents, even if his days in the White House are numbered.
snip---
“We are entering perhaps the most dangerous period of this presidency, and a safe landing will depend on how we understand what is happening and how well we prevent potential catastrophe,” Lee told Salon. “For these reasons, in late September, more than 100 senior mental health experts went on video record to announce that Donald Trump was too psychologically dangerous and mentally unfit to qualify for the presidency or candidacy for re-election. More than a week ago, we held an emergency interdisciplinary conference that followed up on our earlier National Press Club conference, broadcast in full on C-SPAN, which brought together 13 of the nation’s top experts in fields as diverse as psychiatry, law, history, political science, economics, social psychology, journalism, climate science and nuclear science to emphasize the need for fit leadership. A month ago, I urgently published a “Profile of a Nation” to help the public understand what it was facing through this perilous time and to assist with coping and recovery.”
snip----
Joe Biden has suggested that Trump will be escorted from the White House if he doesn’t leave. Do you think he might simply refuse to leave the White House on Jan. 20?

This is almost certain. He himself has announced he will not leave. His patterns so far reveal that he has few internal constraints, and from his inability to tolerate criticism or to admit that he is ever wrong, we can expect him to go to any extents to avoid being a “loser” and a “sucker.” Breaking laws and norms therefore will be nothing for him, especially when his emotional lifeline depends on it, since the loss of the presidency will mean the loss of a steady stream of adoration, in addition to the likelihood of prosecution and going broke.

15. Absolutely correct!

When the abuser feels they are losing control, they stop at nothing to reclaim control, including murder.

We all know chump did not wait for the election to kill Americans. He has over 230k deaths to his credit.

The most successful mass murderer in thd United States.

23. Thanks. Didn't even realize you could just highlight a word and click on define:)

Perspicuity refers to something that can be seen through, i.e., to lucidity, clearness of style or exposition, freedom from obscurity: the perspicuity of her argument.

3. The White House is surrounded by Border Wall

and sounds like the Reich Chancellory. Society is generally moving in a prudent direction even if Republicans are only a trickle, and those in power few. Trump support is retreating in the hinterlands. People have lives, even if we thought they didn't.

What do I expect? A Siege. Negotiations. Maybe a light skirmish. I have no idea how sanity will emerge, but it will, though I do wonder who, or what forces, will storm the fort.

I expect, in the end, men in white suits and the White House looking like the War of 1812 hit it.

9. Trump supporters are retreating now,

while they believe/hope that Trump will win in the courts.

The most likely time for his thug followers to activate their violent threats is inauguration time for Joe. When faced with the actual, visible reality of their loss, some will be enraged enough to act. How many? Don't know. The chances of this happening and the size of the reaction increase if Trump really does refuse to leave. They will feel it is their patriotic duty to come to his defense.

Not saying that this will happen. Just saying that if it does, that is the timing and circumstances that would lead up to it.

19. They are planning to riot

According to several sources, friends who live with tRumpsters, my own friends who have supported him, a few I know who have said they don't approve of the plan to riot...

Yes, they're retreating but forming plans and swallowing propaganda to fuel themselves.
Inauguration day would probably be the day they'd let loose, but I can see them marching on Washington to protest after courts dismiss or rule against their various suits.

On the bright side, the feds are and have been monitoring activities in various hate groups, which coincidentally are pro-45 groups and they will arrest and detain many who are planning violence.

Still, it's going to be a sh*t show for sure.

21. The best thing that Dems and Biden

supporters can do in the case of a Trumpist march on Washington prior to or on the day of Biden's inauguration is to IGNORE it. The temptation to form a counter demonstration will be very strong, but it would only feed the Trumpist thirst for a violent confrontation.

If we react at all, it should be with ridicule and laughter. Loud speakers broadcasting laughter.

Only if they riot in city streets or rural towns, would it be necessary for us to take action to protect people who are targeted.

The racial supremacists might see this as their opportunity to start the racial war they've been wanting for a long time.

31. I agree, and hope that "our" people will

Lay low, avoid protests, counter protests, places or situations where the cult might act up (which is really anywhere). We had rally's weekly, to protest long after the 2016 election, in my southern republican town; in the same spots the tea party had held theirs during Obama.

I was born, raised, and lived in NYC for over 40 years. I've been in the south for almost 20, and while the climate is great and I've met like-minded people and made good friends, the political breakdown in my county is 60/40, and regionally too. Over the years, I've seen a lot of 45 supporters, with hats, shirts, now masks, tRump flags on trucks, one women for tRump flag drives down main Street.

Here in the mountains of Western NC, we get visitors from all over the US, especially Southerners who are either traveling, passing through on their way to or from home, or here to beat the heat, pick apples, visit friends and family, or looking to retire in the area.

The neighboring county is Buncombe, where Asheville is. It's the blue beacon in the area. Pre Covid I was there weekly, now maybe once or twice a month. I could see angry tRumpsters targeting that city, and others that had serious BLM rally's.

This concerns me. As much as we might try to avoid them, they will come where we are and try to get in our face, and without masks. To Democratic cities, and wherever the next racially motivated killing happens, and where our protests are happening, the cult will seek us out.

Otherwise, across the US, I'd expect many to hold peaceful protests as we did in 2016, not looking for violent confrontation, but there are also a good number who are looking for opportunities to be violent. Hopefully there won't be that many in the long run.

4. Thanks for posting

These will indeed be "interesting" times and I expect no effort on the part of any republican to mitigate the damage that Trumpy Bear will inflict or attempt to inflict upon the nation. That said I anticipate that the Biden campaign and team that has or is being assembled fully expects to deal with the worst case scenarios from the donald and will have this well in hand. Granted there are somethings they cannot do until January 20, but there will be stacks of plans in place to implement at 12:01pm on that day.

It will be a rough two months, but we will make it through the storm.

But I believe the Secret Service will escort him out, willingly or not. So he can walk his fat self out or he will be escorted out. No worries there.

He is a pure psychopath/sociopath. He is either headed to jail or a secure mental institution.

But what to do with the 30+ percent who are his loyal to the death base?

We need a return to the Fairness Doctrine ASAP.

7. Trump has always relied on projecting his vision of reality

on the world around him.

He has made a lifelong effort to manipulate and bully those around him to make his vision of reality become as true as much as it possibly can.

Straight out lies, conspiracy theories, accusations, are just part of the tools he uses to make reality conform to his internal construct of how the world should be.

Now there is a big problem with that.
Once those tools no longer have any effect, once his enablers walk away or stop helping him, he is at a loss.
And the loss will be dramatic, a younger and more intelligent person would examine his fundamental assumptions about the world, discard those that are no longer true, create some more appropriate mental constructs, and approach reality in a different way.

But Trump? He too old to do that, he will drive himself insane trying to work out why his lifelong techniques of achieving success no longer work.

There is only one path in Trump's future.
A slow decline, an irreversible descent into insanity.

Expect some vengeful behavior on Trump's part. In the form of him stirring up his followers.

14. Slow decline to insanity? He's pretty well there already.

It's your last sentence that concerns me most. He needs the adoration of his followers, not just to boost his ego, although that is part of his need. He also feels a need to know that there are people who have his back and will stand up for him. His belligerence comes from a lifetime of feeling on his own and on the defensive, thanks to the nature of the family he grew up in. He compensates by having totally loyal defenders (Roy Cohn, Michael Cohen, Rudy), and by demanding absolute loyalty from everyone around him. There is a good chance that, when faced with the ultimate threat to his reality - the very public loss of face and the power to enforce his will - he will turn to inciting his followers to act in his defense.

How many will actually do that? They might consider him a martyr for the cause and turn to someone else to lead them in Trump's name. Or they might stay with him after he is out of office, even if they don't take an armed physical stand for him. He did not create them. He just tapped into them.

Trump’s life time lies, bullying, manipulating is gone.

Telling his only Attorney left made a speech at a Landscaping Company when Rudy was throwing free BS in front of it with a crematorium and a dido store next door.

Sure fits Trump!

That's after doing all the damage he can first, though.

Like Dear Leader, they are all bullshit & threats but "when the word is given", a few social rejects will gather on a street corner & look like fools before fading away. Like Dear Leader, the rank & file are cowards & don't have the brains to even organize their sock drawer! These experts analyze Trump but forget to analyze the followers....without them physically participating, it doesn't happen!
