finally takes over and he realizes there is nothing more he can do, I am wondering if Trump is going to finally crack and have a major nervous breakdown. He has cheated his way out of every situation, everyone around him is afraid to tell him the truth. He is totally spiraling out of control mentally.
Any psychologists here with experience with this type of mental state? He seems similar to Hitler who was willing to send old men off to a lost war. Hitler probably still thought he could pull it out and I think Trump seems to be in the same state of denial.

(25,464 posts)He wouldn't be discussing 2024 if he thought he won. This is all for show to keep the rubes funding his legal defense fund and to get them to the polls in the Georgia runoffs.

No, he's not. This is an act, just like it's been an act the past four years. Want proof? He sounds almost perfectly reasonable in the Woodward tapes.

(5,555 posts)Greed is why he is doing this. He is using the Stein model and using post election angst to get donations which are being funneled to shore up his general campaign finances. Why pay off your own campaign's debt when others will do it for you?
The little but if theatre on Fox tonight confirms they have no allegations with any substance. If they had anything better they'd be moving with it.

(34,195 posts)I am getting two to three emails a day requesting donations to defense funds for Donald Trump to prove fraud in the recent election.
I am a lifelong Democrat and I voted for Biden.
I just delete them.

(3,733 posts)When Trump loses Georgia, I think it's much more likely
that he starts attacking the Georgia GOP. I expect that he'll blame them
for his loss. Trump has zero intent to be a team player.

(12,344 posts)It's always hard to tell what they really believe. But they ALWAYS appear to believe whatever they are saying at the moment which is always to their advantage. But they aren't delusional, so they don't believe pigs can fly or any such thing. Right now, it is Trump's advantage to believe he won, so he believes it and probably always will. He will use every possible trick, no matter how absurd, to keep his job until there is literally nothing left to do. Then he will cut his losses and leave, spending the rest of his life claiming he really won but was robbed.

(5,443 posts)capable of denying reality to keep his optimism alive. Trump was significantly influenced by Norman Vincent Peale, the author of "The Power of Positive Thinking," which when taken to extremes is particularly dangerous, and leads to magical, simplistic thinking of which Trump is an exemplar.
About Peale and his philosophy:
https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2015/10/donald-trump-2016-norman-vincent-peale-213220
""Known as Gods salesman, Peale merged worldliness and godliness to produce an easy-to-follow theology that preached self-confidence as a life philosophy. Critics called him a con man, described his church as a cult, and said his simple-minded approach shut off genuine thinking or insight. But Peales outlook, promoted through his radio shows, newspaper columns and articles, and through Guideposts, his monthly digest of inspirational messages, fit perfectly into the Trump family culture of never hesitating to bend the rules, doing whatever it took to win, and never, ever giving up.
Believe in yourself! Peales book begins. Have faith in your abilities! He then outlines 10 rules to overcome inadequacy attitudes and build up confidence in your powers. Rule one: formulate and staple indelibly on your mind a mental picture of yourself as succeeding, hold this picture tenaciously, and always refer to it no matter how badly things seem to be going at the moment.
Subsequent rules tell the reader to avoid fear thoughts, never think of yourself as failing, summon up a positive thought whenever a negative thought concerning your personal powers comes to mind, depreciate every so-called obstacle, and make a true estimate of your own ability, then raise it 10 per cent."

I forget the con element of it but thats short for confidence man so Trump cons himself to keeping conning others.

(9 posts)Trump keeps fighting for a few more days. Then says its obvious he was cheated, but for the sake of the country he concedes. (He will not use that word, however). Soon after Biden is inaugurated, he will hold multiple rallies just before he starts his own television network, or piggybacks on OAN or Newsmax. (Fox somehow now is a liberal rag) The theme of the next 4 years will be how dirty the Democrats are and how he was cheated. The goal will be to cast doubt on our entire election system going forward.

(4,999 posts)That Norman Vincent Peale thing complicates it because he may be so delusional to think he can win against the NY state AG and whatever else will confront him when he leaves office, so he stays in the US.
But deep down at a subconscious level, I'm betting he's terrified, like waaay past sh*t your pants terrified, and that he'll have an "urgent" meeting with Putin in Russia on or about Jan 10, and will never come back.
He's done a great job for Putin, look how divided this country is now compared to 2016. God only knows how many state secrets Trump told to Putin already, and may be trying to sell off in these last 70 days. Putin would welcome him into Russia -- as an example of how he takes care of his bought leaders so he can have similar success in other countries with shaky electorates.
