... was the rioting and violence of the school segregation battle in the South. I remember US Marshalls escorting little first graders to their classes while crowd gathered around the school shouted insults and hateful slurs. It broke my heart.

but those rate right up there as well. The 1960 and early 1970s were very chaotic.

The intellectual and administrative skill level of Republican presidents drops every time since Eisenhower with maybe a slight bump for GHWB. If the trend line continues the next Republican president will either be Eric Trump or Roseanne Barr.
