The F14, F15, F16, F18 and F22. I’m afraid the F35 will not be one of them.

but they didn't allow exports. Put together a kludge instead, sold it off to the chumps. My 2c.

There were buyers in Australia, Israel, and Japan. People were talking about an 'export version' but the main reason given for ending it was the program was too expensive. (cf f-35, hollow laugh)

I know nothing about aeronautics, but the f-22 is a beautiful aircraft. My tinfoil hat says it was discontinued to protect some orders for the F-35.

One of the other reasons cited was lack of a clear mission for the aircraft. When it was initially developed it was apparently done so to meet expected advancements in China and Russia that either had not materialized at that time or were so far down the road the F22 would be obsolete by the time they came online. It’s a terrific airplane. There are some things it does that the F35 cannot, such as cruise at supersonic speeds without falling apart.

What does the F-35 do (for the airforce) that the F-22 can not?

(Joke: Maybe they can get the supersonics rights with an F-35S, space force variant)

The AF won’t get the vertical takeoff version, though.

Here’s a rundown on some of the key differences:

My current project is building aggressor aircraft to face F-35's (by modifying F-16's), and 9/10 times, the the F-16's are waxed before they even get a lock on the F-35's.... IF they ever get a lock on the F-35's.

So, I could be wrong, but I think the disregard for the F-35 is very poorly placed.

gave the Supersonic about one minute. Heat dissipation is one major issue. Boiling the fuel in the cross over between the tanks.

Another over priced flying Junk Pile.

great to have a multi-purpose aircraft that functioned across all branches of the military. As is often the case for multi-purpose things they wind up not working well for any purpose.

air frame that each branch would “tweak” to fit its specific purposes. Cheaper and easier to upgrade. However, it hasn’t worked out well. The tasks of each branch are not as overlapping as one would think.

Second, supersonic speed doesn’t mean much when you can launch an accurate Mach 3 AMRAAM before the enemy ever realizes that you’re in the air.

If I were on the other side, I wouldn’t want to deal with an F-35. The Stealth, sensor capabilities, and weaponry combinations are well beyond what any adversary can bring to the cook out.

More and more money over the years, over the decades, to build fragile and incompatible systems - all to maintain “air superiority” in a world that cries for peace and understanding.

They’re fun as war porn, though. Air shows and Veterans’ Day flyovers keep the masses on board with this shit.

Modern semi-autonomous fighter aircraft and missiles can endure accelerations that would kill a human pilot.

Aircraft carriers are another obsolete 20th century technology.

Not that it matters.

The modern world economy is an awfully brittle thing.

Any serious war between the major economic powers would break it and a few billion people would die.
