I've never seen so much excitement over senate races
I'm from South Florida, born and raised. However, my mother and her family is from Richmond County and rural Burke County, Georgia. My father's family is from Savannah, Georgia.
With the election of Barack Obama in 2008, politics sort of slid into pop culture. Its seems to me that trend really took off in 2016 with Donald Trump, and not for the better. With Trump, politics went everywhere. It was difficult to escape. It was talked about even more than usual on morning pop culture radio shows, daytime talk shows, sports, in sitcoms, etc.
I'm more thrilled than ever that more people are paying attention to politics, paying attention to the people that represent them, and are getting more active... even though 72 million have looked at that dumpster fire of a White House and Donald Trump and said "I want that guy."
I have spoken to my family and they are more fired up than ever about these Georgia races, which shocks me beyond belief. I've spoken with them about politics and I know they don't really pay attention that much. They are reliable Democratic voters but outside of election times, they tune out. At least that was true up to this election cycle. They are excited and ready to cast their vote for Reverend Warnock. One of my little cousins in Atlanta has friends that attend Reverend Warnock's church and have encouraged my cousin to get out and vote for Reverend Warnock. I've had to educate them a little about Jon Ossoff.
My family's focus is usually on the presidency so their excitement over senate races amazes me. Ultimately, I take their unusual engagement and enthusiasm over senate races as a good sign that Democrats are fired up and ready to bring these senate seats home.
