Local food store shortages.

Last two weeks at Aldi's. As fast as large quantities of toilet paper arrive, hours later its gone. Restocking is much faster. Cranberry and canned pumpkin is in short supply and they limit 2 cans. Get this, peanutbutter in many stores the shelves are really low stocked. I'm thinking a manufacturing delay due to sick workers.

I see people really loading up carts. Not a crazy panic but more of a low level chaos.

Food banks have to be decimated right now. I normally donate by the case when stuff is on sale but with purchase limits and no sales I've been slowed down.

I was literally in there yesterday, and bought two cans of cranberry and several of pumpkin. No limits on anything, all shelves fully stocked, except the lime sparkling water, which is always semi-sold down.

No issues at TJ's, Target, or Publix. No chaos or overbuying, except a few folks last weekend buying extra water and batteries because of the possible hurricane that just missed us.

Will get my annual can of pumpkin at my next grocery run. Things are ok here (Philly burbs). Lately I can’t find the cat litter my boys use, hope they’re ok with Tidy Cats Lightweight Unscented.

I realize that they manufacture fumeless oven cleaner, but even so today's cleaning agents can't be healthy for people and pets.

IMO, here's a better way to clean the oven.

I avoid using cat litter that contains Febreeze because that item is extremely toxic to both animals and humans.

it has that self clean cycle, where it heats up to 3 million degrees (or something like that) for a few hours and the crud inside is turned to ash.

DUers like Nolabear wouldn't be able to use that cleaning cycle unless she boarded her African Grey for a few days and circulated the air in her home.

I don't have a self cleaning oven, but I do have the steam clean option. It's not an issue, but I still have to wipe the inside of the oven down with a cleaning towel after using the steam clean cycle.

And just what toxic fumes do they give off if they are simply heating the crud inside until it turns to ash? Or are all cooking odors toxic?

24. I found 2 different articles that explain the reasoning.

Under the pet section of this article, it explains why it's an issue for pet birds. https://homeguides.sfgate.com/dangers-selfcleaning-oven-79047.html

Removing your pets from the home, even when you open all the windows during oven cleaning, is a must to keep them safe. While not all animals may be affected by the fumes, animals that are more susceptible to Teflon toxicity could die even when placed in another area of your home. Birds are the most likely to succumb to the toxic fumes known as polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) toxicosis, according to PetEducation.com. Birds’ respiratory tracts are designed to deliver high levels of oxygen to the flight muscles; these same highly efficient respiratory tracts deliver toxins quickly through birds’ bodies, making the fumes produced by self-cleaning ovens an automatic death sentence.

This other article explains how a bird owner did all the cautionary measures in her home while running the cleaning cycle and all 3 of her birds still died from the fumes. I would have been devastated if that happened to me.

since I first got it, it was at least 10 yrs. Most things I make on the stove so.... not that much use. But it was so bad I used a vacuum first inside. I can't bring myself to use oven cleaner! Anyway I was watching deep clean videos on You Tube and ran across a DIY paste.
Worked like a charm. I believe it included Dawn Power Wash it's in a small pump, and baking soda. I left it on overnight and after I wiped it away oven was like new!!!

Only thing I couldn’t get on my list was a normal sized bag of fresh cranberries. The 2 lb bag was slightly more expensive but available. I’ll freeze the extras.

I’m well stocked up on most things. My weekly list is generally fresh produce and milk.

I see BJs is sold out, both in-store and online. My local market had already jacked up pricing, but they're empty now also. I did manage an online order from Walmart, but had to settle for a brand I usually don't buy.

Of course, last night's NBC News highlighting shortages didn't help...probably started the stampede all over again.

Significant stocking up started AT LEAST a couple weeks ago and more like a month ago. You obviously missed getting trampled in the "stampede," and congratulations for that.

my staple frozen artichoke hearts, and some other things, were missing. Same for some missing items in our local Kroger and Walmart. I've never purchased frozen butternut squash before, but there it was, an alternative to canned veggies if I'm "doubling down" as Fauci recommends.

People were encouraged to stock up....

We did not stock up.

Win or lose, I did not envision violence that would require staying home for weeks. At the most there would be a curfew. None of this happened.

We had the Biden celebrators. Alamo Plaza was walled off. I'm sure there were some yahoos out and about, but the two groups did not seem to cross paths. No curfew, no protests. I think a few birds were flipped by the Trump people, but that is about all.

Now CV-19 is back and Thanksgiving is around the corner. Toilet paper limits are back too.

no one enlivened our day by hiking up our driveway and giving us the finger. Can't help feeling we missed out. My only purchases were a bottle of Scotch and chips. Oh, and a jalapeno pepper for tuna dip.
