Will Republicans in future races pay a price for their association with Donald Trump?

If Trump is not on the ballot, how well will they do?

My hunch is that we may get a preview with the run-off in Georgia in January.

Donald Trump brought out the worst in America. The racists, the white nationalists, the bullies, the misogynists, the xenophobic haters. There was nothing good about them. They can't admit it, but we can. They were anti-American. They were anti-democracy. They were anti-humanity.

With Trump not on the ballot, these people will have nothing to vote for. Some may hang with the Republican Party but most of them will drop out, in my opinion.

The Democrats will never forget what they have done to our country. We have seen their true nature.

Otherwise this would have been the landslide in all phases we expected.

I see them all adopting his fascist ways. They’re going to get worse. That’s what Republicans expect and want.

Unless he really does go to prison for his crimes, which is unlikely, he’s going to be on the sidelines pushing the whole party that way. His base is huge and rabid and they will vote for who he wants them to. The Republicans are terrified of that base.

He really needs to be gone, like gone for good.

It’s probably good that he’s not that smart and extremely selfish. I’d approach it by telling people to vote for the people I want in the midterms so when I become president again in ‘25, there’s a Congress ready to do what I want immediately. Keep the whackos engaged.

Maybe I shouldn’t be giving them any ideas.

way to a second term. Give it a few months into the new Biden Administration. In the meantime Trump will be consumed with dodging prosecutions and lawsuits. He may be planning to run from it all.

I know this is a different perspective than the MSM is pushing about 2024 runs and Trump TV and the likes, but I think that narrative ignores all the legal trouble he is about to become engulfed in. He may very well announce a 2024 run but just as a way of scamming more money from his base as long as he can.

Every asshole repub should be ridiculed endlessly for their support of trump.
The indictments will show how crooked he was. Hell, the indictments may drag a few
of those trump/Russia suckers down too.

that so many people would have voted for Trump. Trump has certainly opened a can of worms and for those like minded people who still support him as a Republican, I will NEVER understand! Hopefully, most will not vote again unless they have another Trump on the ticket.

Many Trump voters weren't political before Trump showed up. I would think that with Trump out of the picture that Dems would benefit down ballot. As you say, we'll see in January in Georgia.

With a couple word changes, your sentence I quoted up above would make an excellent battle cry for Democrats in future elections. "Never forget what Trump and the Republicans did to our country."

Republicans were successful in convincing the voters they are not Trump.

Now with Trump not on the ticket will that hurt overall Republican turnout? That is a bit different question and I think that could happen.

They would not have gotten 72 million votes without Trump on the ballot. The Democrats would probably have gotten the landslide they had expected if Trump had not carried the Republicans across the line. He was a very effective demagogue.

not so much. They vote R because of "guns" and "socialism" and other RW wedge issues. And they'll pretty much vote for anything that lives and breaths - look at who Alabama voted for as their Senator, who is just a tick above "house plant".
