I can hardly believe this...37% of Americans want to lose democracy.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/trump-sore-loser/2020/11/14/b6c58500-2375-11eb-a688-5298ad5d580a_story.html

Large majorities of Americans still embrace democracy. But the share of voters who want “a strong leader who does not have to bother with Congress and elections” grew from 25 percent in 1990 to 37 percent in 2017, according to the World Values Survey, which measured attitudes in 48 countries.

They're usually racists who don't want minorities to vote, but they've been careful to not say that explicitly. (They provided other clues during conversations.)

Maybe they should live in one of those countries to find out what it's like. Once they got a taste of it, they would be clamoring to return to a democracy.

A fair number of people living under autocracies drink the koolaid deeply, and truly love their Dear Leader.

when they say they want "a strong leader" instead of a democracy. If it was someone else, they probably wouldn't be so quick to dump democracy.

to see how many of them wish Trump had made himself fully a dictator and declared a military coup. They literally say this. These are the same people who went all tea-party 10 years ago and supposedly carried little copies of the Constitution in their pockets because Obama came up with a law to provide affordable health insurance. They're using their little mini-Constitutions now for toilet paper, I guess.

We'll continue to outnumber them, but they'll continue to sabotage the system to level the playing field. We need to push, push, push GOTV, even and especially for the mid-terms, as our very existence depends on it.

Right now, the Republican ideas are deadly, not just physically deadly (ignore climate change and pandemics) but economically deadly (no job and it's ok if you starve) and even spiritually deadly (there's no truth and nothing is sacred and some people's lives are worthless).

Coincidence? I think not. A group of people, protected by the constitution, right here in the United States, angling to undo democracy. All because they crave an authoritarian father figure to tell them what to do.

Pathetic if they weren't so dangerous.

FTR according to Wikipedia, they’re 30-35% of the population. Under-reported I think.

Divided government is killing us, and the longer progress is hampered by the filibuster and the Senate, the greater the yearning for an autocrat who can “get something done” will become.

I wonder if any of them have relatives who fought and died or lost limbs fighting fascism.

Perhaps partly to blame is the unbridled greed cut loose by Reagan that after 40 years some people simply cannot control: "too much and never enough," to quote a certain Trump family member.
