Republicans believing in invisible things

A greater share of Republicans are religious i.e. believe in invisible things (compared with the left) so why do they have such a hard time believing Covid is real and deadly, or that the earth is round?

Because "believing" in Covid would inconvenience them, unlike their religious beliefs that can be formed to their advantage.

They deny climate change, they deny Covid, they deny the election results. It is a totally negative outlook on life. It is easier for them to believe the fantastic lie than the mundane truth.

If it fits their world view, they believe it.

Oddly, I was thinking of my brother today and how he believed things.

He believed in the power of positive thinking.
He believed in prayer.
He believed in climbing corporate ladders and dressing for success.
He believed in hard work and bootstraps and self sufficiency.
He believed in pyramid marketing schemes.
He believed in vitamins sold by pyramid marketing schemes.
He died too young, unemployed and broke.
