(22,112 posts)and his interpretation of the law as it applies to him and his conduct, would mean that he can't pardon himself, that is, if no man is above the law, then no man can pardon themselves, by extension of this logic.

(16,912 posts)If this asshole did, you would think the SC WOULD rule Against him. ( that's what i would think)

It sounds ridiculous, but that would be on brand?

(7,412 posts)It seems only fitting he goes out with a pardon of himself

(16,912 posts)That would put it to the test!!
Eyeball_Kid
(7,431 posts)he really isn't pardoning himself of anything. He has to identify that he did something that's punishable, and then get a pardon. But he refuses to admit wrongdoing of any kind, so even a self-pardon makes no sense.
Any Supreme Court justice who buys into self-pardon will be deemed a legal dunce.

(1,572 posts)Dumpy has an ego that would say he is not guilty of anything. On the other hand, there is no one to get him out from under ALL the criminal activity he committed. Attorneys would defend him but only if they are paid to do so. I think he really is in deep doodoo. This is one pathetic human being. I hope his kids sink with him.

(32,017 posts)If nobody challenged it, precedent would be set. If someone did challenge it, the SCOTUS would have to decide whether or not a Presidential self-pardon is Constitutional. We have not encountered this issue before.

(21 posts)I guess the question is: Can he pardon himself and his family on future charges? I mean he might be able to list all of the things that he could be charged with and say "I pardon myself and family on all of these illegal things that I will eventually be found guilty of in the future". Don't know how that works legally. Plus I believe he can only pardon federal crimes not state crimes.

(23,216 posts)Nixon had not been charged with anything. So he could certainly pardon his family members. Whether he can pardon himself is an unsettled question, but I suspect he will put it to the test, and his toadies on the Supreme Court will probly uphold it. I have very little faith that they would do otherwise. The Constitution doesn't put any limits on the presidential pardon power, so these d*** "originalists" will likely go with the old common-law theory that "the king can do no wrong." (as long as it's their "king"
(You are correct on the last point.)

(16,912 posts)I'm thinking like pardoning his family OR any others involved in breaking any federal law? I'm thinking he cannot do that, BUT Barr would allow it! Also if Barr allowed it could it be challenged by the NEW AG.?
