(15,462 posts)from the Democratic Party. Im not even sure theyd do it. I think the final would be 5-4 against trump. Roberts and Gorsuch would vote with the other 3. I just cant see them stealing it. I guess I may be naive.

(115,280 posts)and that because Supreme Court justices have lifetime appointments they are no longer beholden to the president who appointed them. Just ask the ghost of Eisenhower about Earl Warren. Ask Nixon's ghost about Burger, Blackmun and Powell, all of whom joined with the rest of the court in holding that he had to cough up the Watergate tapes (Rehnquist recused himself because he had been a WH counsel).

(51,974 posts)had he been able to make the election closer.
Three states is too much for them to overturn as it would involve three separate cases all going Donnie's way.
One state, they could have, and would have stolen for him.
But Donnie couldn't make it close enough for that

(18,486 posts)The plan was to get one or more of these challenges to the Supreme Court where, with Barrett on board, he'd have the votes to turn a close race.
But they underestimated the turnout and the number of states Biden would win - and, very important, how effective voting and civil rights groups would be in educating voters about how to vote so that their votes would be counted. And the one case that did make it to the Court involved too few ballots to make any difference.

(1,235 posts)a good chunk of that was after the first debate and when he supposedly got COVID. Do you think that he really believed that those long lines of Black people and young people were there to vote for him?
RBG dying was another tipping point

(18,486 posts)And FYI, RBG died before early voting started and he got COVID before many states began voting.
He - and many other people, including plenty of people on DU - thought the race would be close enough for the Supreme Court to steal it. But, as I said, he miscalculated.

(25,342 posts)Barrett was the Federalist Society's choice, just like the last several conservative justices.
Trump's insistence that she was going to do anything for him in this election was just bluster and lies. It was never going to happen. If he actually believed otherwise - which I doubt - he allowed himself to be BS'd by the FS.

(24,554 posts)Also, Mitch's legacy.
She won't throw an election, but look what the Rs have won: Citizen's United, gutted the Voting Rights Acts etc. Many voting rights cases that went to the Supreme Court since 2013 were lost. Redistricting is coming up...all those court cases will favor the GOP.
