Public pressure and lawsuits kept the USPS from handing Trump the election: Experts believe what made the difference was enormous public pressure, multiple lawsuits, scrutiny from courts, voters mailing ballots early, and legions of dedicated USPS workers.
What It Took To Keep The Postal Service From Handing Trump The Election
The point here is not just about election outcomes. Its about honoring the sacred right to vote.

(9,234 posts)I bookmarked this post from Nov. 4th:
USPS data shows thousands of mailed ballots missed Election Day deadlines
Nearly 7%, or close to 8,000 ballots mailed on Tues. were not processed on time... this and other info on USPS performance from the final day of mail at link.
I'm certain a detailed investigation into the entirety of the drump/dejoy postal shenanigans will be performed and will be quite eye-opening. I really look forward to reading it. I hope it doesn't take as the Mueller report.
Yes, we definitely need to know how many ballots never got counted, and which races they were meant for.

(9,234 posts)given the highest priority and separated from other collected mail that day to be specially delivered to election officials on time. (Critical in the states that don't accept ballots arriving after election day). Those were orders from a Judge that weren't treated with the required urgency. They (the USPS DeJoy gang) decided to follow their own schedule.

But Eliot, you had many DUers worried for months! The biggest hurdle is behind. Trump lost the election. Now there's just Electoral College counts and voting, and eviction to deal with.
I never had a doubt. I thought Biden's underperformance in February was intentional. It gave him room to ignite like a rocket, and he did. I knew in May when "The Liar Tweets Tonight" trended. It gave Democrats oxygen. I knew during the first debate.
Trump attacked us, but not on policy. He failed to sell his ideas because he had none. All he had was rage.

(13,035 posts)To ensure our democracy is saved. After this election i will never take the postal svc for granted. Gaps in the system such as a party toadie must be fixed by Dems/Biden admin to ensure going fwd we never have such eggregious abuse of power to undermine democracy again. This is horrific on so many levels.

(8,806 posts)We should make a list, even though it is in the hundreds, and send them USPS to EVERY Representative and Senator in the U.S. Congress...
Remember when Doonesbury did that to HW Bush, and hundreds of thousands of letters got delivered to HW Bush's home address??????
AND, put three or four stamps on it to support the revenue of the post office that DeJoy and Republicans want to destroy.....

Especially the ones in Rural America..........Could you imagine FedEx and UPS having to drive each and every package, way the hell out into rural America in order to deliver just one package and what that would do to their profits/???????? (Amazon would shit bricks)
It is way past time that Rural Republican America begins to suffer the consequences of their vote..........

(9,963 posts)The Board of Governors for the USPS is Senate confirmed, and they choose the Postmaster General, a position that is not confirmed by the Senate. Currently, the governors serve for 7 years. I could not find anything about whether a president can fire a governor. I would think a new AG could investigate both DeJoy and the actions of the Board to authorize him to willfully destroy millions of dollars of government property for no reason other than sabotaging the election and that might prompt some resignations.

We also hope Bidens Department of Justice will heed a call from U.S. Reps. Ted Lieu, D-California, and Hakeem
Jeffries, D-New York, for a federal investigation of DeJoy and the postal Board of Governors. In a letter to the FBI in August, the lawmakers alleged that DeJoys attempts to delay the mail violated federal law.

So sick of these asshole screaming voter fraud when they pulled every string to steal the election. Investigate Kentucky and South Carolina. I can smell their bull shit there from here in WNC. (9,110 posts)I don't think there is. Especially with the SCOTUS we have. In fact, why can't there be an "Invalid" issued to ACB for the McConnell decision re: supreme justice in America.. Whether time behind bars is possible, I don't know. But there has to be going forward.

(11,562 posts)...it could have EASILY gone the other way. Hard to believe that their obvious, heavy-handed schemes almost worked.
It's like reading about WW2. In hindsight, it seems that a favourable outcome in a given situation was inevitable and plain to see. In fact, there were many possible outcomes in play.

(3,635 posts)for bringing attention to this issue - she got many anonymous tips - and hammered on this topic for weeks.
The postal workers and that judge fought for democracy.
This election was far closer that many understand and the GOP's suppression efforts need to be dismantled going forward.
No political party or politician can be allowed to mess with the post office or any essential services for the purpose of shifting an election - which is exactly what Trump/DeJoy were attempting.

(43,123 posts)Amazing they thought they could get away with it.
Amazing they thought no one was looking.
Amazing they underestimated the size of the con they needed as well as the resistance they would face.
Amazing they apparently had no credible plan to distract from the operation.
Amazing they had no idea many, even a large majority, of USPS workers would resist.
Amazing they didn't understand the proud history of the US Postal Service.
I simply conclude that the con wasn't supposed to work out this way.

(9,600 posts)mailed in ballots you will stop the democratic voters votes from being counted. Evil to the bottom of their being.
The democratic party has to become much more organized, observant, and creative in maintaining the ability to protect their democratic voters right to vote and having those votes cast, actually be counted. No telling how many democratic votes were left off of the final vote tallies due to being called late or through voter suppression efforts by the GOP.
The democratic party must become proactive the year round. Not just start worrying in election years.
